The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kenneth T. Furlong, the 26th sheriff to serve Carson City and Ormsby County since 1861. Among the topics to be discussed will be school security, the Sheriff Department's deescalation policy, and what may be unintended consequences of current juvenile detention practices. He will also be prepared to field questions on any issues of concern to the community.

The William N. Pennington Foundation Career and Technical Education Scholarship provides students at Western Nevada College with the opportunity to pursue meaningful careers in a variety of in-demand fields such as welding, automotive, healthcare and manufacturing. At the same time, the scholarship supports the well-being of the local community by providing employers with a skilled workforce.

Two Carson City women were arrested in the area of E. William Thursday night for possession of methamphetamine after allegedly cutting off a deputy.

According to the report, the deputy was patrolling in the area of E. William and Gold Dust West Way when a vehicle made a left hand turn on a yellow, cutting in front of the deputy who was driving through the intersection.

Two candidates were appointed to fill terms on the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee by unanimous vote.

The committee is made of seven members who serve staggered four-year terms. One vacancy was due to a resignation, and one vacancies was due to expiration of term.
