Offenders go on hunger strike at Ely State Prison, portion sizes among complaints

The Nevada Department of Corrections is reporting a hunger strike among some offenders at Ely State Prison.
Carson City 911 service unavailable from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. for Spectrum phone customers

Those with Spectrum/Charter phone service will be unable to call 911 emergency dispatch beginning Monday night at 11 p.m. through 8 a.m. Tuesday morning due to maintenance being done by the communication company.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the sheriff's office and the Carson City Fire Department were alerted Monday afternoon about the 911 phone line being unavailable to those with the Spectrum phone service. This impacts Spectrum/Charter customers only and does not impact incoming call capabilities from other phone and mobile services, said Furlong.
If you have Spectrum/Charter phone service and have an emergency, call 775-887-2008, which automatically directs callers to Carson City Dispatch as does 775-887-2677.
Carson City affordable housing development awarded $39M as part of Home Means Nevada initiative

A planned veterans-preference, workforce housing and multi-family development slated to be built in Carson City got a $39.4 million financial boost Monday as part of the Home Means Nevada affordable housing initiative. Statewide, $500 million was awarded for various developments.

Last Thursday and Friday, Dec. 1 and 2, students at Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City had the opportunity to partake in Nutrition Services’ first ever Student Choice “Love It or Lose It” event during lunch where they tasted new menu concepts and voted on keeping it on the menu or losing it.

Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department invites the community to join us for our 3rd annual Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch this Friday through Sunday, Dec. 9-11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The evenings will be full of family-friendly activities and old-fashioned holiday cheer, with wagon rides, children’s story-time from the Carson City Library, live music, Christmas Craft Market, children’s arts and craft activities.

A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday for a felony warrant, alleged possession of a controlled substance and five misdemeanor offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

We are collecting new pajamas in all sizes and styles for the CASA of Carson City Foster Kids’ Closet to be distributed to local children. Larger children's and adult sizes for teens are especially needed.
