Retired 2-Star General, longtime Nevada Guard advocate Maj. Gen. Robert T. Herbert dies

Retired Nevada Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Robert T. Herbert, who rose through the organization’s ranks as an aviator and served as long-time senior policy advisor for Sen. Harry Reid, died suddenly Friday. He was 64.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Herbert was killed Friday in a car crash.

Senator Square: Carson High School library logo competition, see you at the pole and more

Logo submissions from students for Carson High School's Senators Library were voted on by students and staff. The winning submission, and now official library logo of the CHS library, is Senator Man by Morigan Ruffner, and the second place winner is Elena Brugger and her social media logo.

Friends of the Nevada State Museum assist facilities department with ATV donation

The Friends of the Nevada State Museum continue to support the Museum and its mission to serve the community and state. At the Sept. 7 Friends of the Nevada State Museum meeting the membership approved the purchase of a Polaris ATV that will be donated to the Museum. The ATV will include a snowplow attachment, winch, and trailer ball and will be used by facility staff.

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day to help restore fire-damaged areas Oct. 2

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration event. By pitching in, you will help improve the ecosystem functions and wildlife habitats that surround Lake Tahoe.

Following the catastrophic Caldor Fire, upcoming winter storms threaten to wash tons of erodible soils and sediment off of steep, scorched mountain slopes and into the creeks and rivers that flow into Lake Tahoe.

Street Vibrations continues at Carson City’s Harley-Davidson Dealership

This weekend, the ground will be rumbling near the Harley-Davidson Dealership thanks to the annual Street Vibrations celebration.

Motorcycle demonstrations, tattoos, food trucks, vendors and more await throughout the weekend.

Children's Museum hosts train ride fundraiser Sunday at Carson City's Mills Park

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and the Carson City Railroad Association present Mills Park Train Rides happening Sunday, Sept. 26 at Mills Park from noon to 4 p.m. There will be train rides running every half an hour. The train stops twice per ride for a quick scavenger hunt.
