The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is seeking applicants for a service and training opportunity being offered in the Dayton, Nevada area. The successful applicant will have a dedication to teamwork aimed at increasing access to food, thereby improving food security and wellness in the community.
Hungry bear stands tall before plucking fruit from tree in Carson City neighborhood

A black bear was spotted in a plum tree on the west side of Carson City on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at the corner of Thompson and Elm streets. He rested in the tree for over an hour until coming down around 2 p.m. (Click on photo to enlarge.)

Did you feel it? USGS says 3.8 magnitude earthquake located south of Topaz Lake

The USGS reports a magnitude 3.8 earthquake 9.9 miles south of Topaz Lake that happened at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Nevada Seismological Lab reports the earthquake registered a 3.9 magnitude. It was followed by a 2.1 magnitude at 8:14 a.m.

Carson City Fire Department respond to structure fire on Lake Glen Drive

UPDATE 7:48AM: A battalion chief on scene reports the fire is no longer a threat to nearby residences and have it knocked down. The cause is under investigation.
