Vote Nevada Executive Director to speak at Democratic luncheon

Sondra Cosgrove, PhD, Executive Director and Chair of the Board for Vote Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. She will provide an overview of the process by which Nevada's electoral districts will be redrawn in line with the data produced by the 2020 census, and the ways in which the proposed districts will be rated for how well they conform to standards of fairness.

Carson City, Quad County COVID-19 weekly update: 12 deaths, 619 new cases and 178 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is providing the Quad-County community with a weekly update for the week starting Sept. 16 and ending Sept. 22, 2021.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 12 deaths, 619 new cases, and 178 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 18,477, with 14,339 recoveries and 280 deaths; 3,858 cases remain active.

Northern Nevada 'Homeless Veterans Stand Down' canceled due to COVID concerns; help remains available

The annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down, scheduled for Friday, has been canceled due to COVID concerns. However homeless veterans will receive the care and support they have earned, according to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System.

Two companies in Lyon, 1 in Storey and 13 in Clark County to receive $46M in tax abatements

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board approved 16 companies Thursday that will receive $46 million in tax abatements. In return these companies are required to create 1,432 jobs at an hourly wage of $31.83 in the next two years.

Carson Valley Meats proposes Carson City facility

Gardnerville-based Carson Valley Meats will appear before the Carson City Growth Management and Planning Commission Wednesday, Sept. 29, to review its proposal for a meat processing facility to be located off of Brick Road in Carson City.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is currently taking registrations for all teens in Carson City. For $20 a month, teens will have access to a safe and fun place with staff that enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Nevada receives $160,000 for nation’s first-ever recreation trail building school

CARSON CITY — Nevada leaders are excited to announce the U.S. Economic Development Administration is providing a $160,000 grant to the Nevada-based Great Basin Institute to establish the nation’s first-ever professional recreation trail building school in Ely, Nevada.

Carson City School Board to review proposals in superintendent search, discuss policy changes and more

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Sept. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert "Bob" Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Items up for discussion at the school board include a restorative discipline plan, policy changes and the search for a new superintendent.
