Carson City Symphony Chorus to begin rehearsals for June and July concerts

Attention singers: The Carson City Symphony Chorus will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, May 3, for outdoor performances with the Carson City Symphony at the Governor’s Mansion outdoors on June 11 and in Genoa on July 4. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Choral Room in Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

6 sentenced in 2016 Carson City murder

Tears were shed and tensions were high Monday as the defendants in the Grant Watkins murder were sentenced for their involvement in the death of the 18-year-old Carson City man.

Carson City firefighters called to small light fixture fire at Empire Elementary

UPDATE 9:45PM: A bird's nest near a light fixture caused a small fire Monday night at Empire Elementary School, a Carson City Battalion Chief said. Firefighters cut a portion of the roof open to determine if the fire had spread into the interior attic portion of the building. There was no further extension of fire in the roof, said Carson City Fire District Battalion Chief Dan Albee. The incident was turned over to school officials at 9:34 p.m.

Bear biologist bites back at critics with lawsuit

A Nevada bear biologist who’s been subject to heated online attacks is striking back in court. Carl Lackey, a biologist for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, filed a lawsuit against critics he says use Facebook in a “vicious and calculated effort to damage his reputation and jeopardize his employment.”

Battle Born Social cuts ribbon on new downtown Carson City restaurant

Members of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and other special guests were treated to a preview of Battle Born Social Monday night in a ribbon cutting ceremony that formally opened the restaurant at 318 N. Carson Street in downtown Carson City.

NDOT announces Highway 50 lane shifts at Silver Springs for USA Parkway construction

Traffic lane shifts and speed reductions will take place through early fall on U.S. 50 in Silver Springs as the Nevada Department of Transportation begins construction of a roundabout connecting the future USA Parkway extension to U.S. 50.

Ann Wilkinson, Former Chief of Staff to Governor Sandoval, Named NCJFCJ Director of Human Resources

(Reno, Nev.) – Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s former deputy chief of staff, Ann Wilkinson, has been named the new National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges’ (NCJFCJ) director of human resources.

Most recently, Wilkinson served Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s administration as an agency executive and as a senior advisor. In her role as deputy chief of staff, Wilkinson’s work focused on healthcare policy and serving as the Governor’s liaison on health and human service initiatives.
