For years, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City has kicked off the season with their Annual Holiday Bazaar. 2023 Is no exception.

This week there are a number of ways you can honor our local veterans and active military members, with several events planned throughout the region. Take a look to find all the parades, ceremonies, free admission and more happening this week and into the weekend.

On Saturday, Nov. 11 Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City will host a Veterans Day Weekend Fun Shoot from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Target fees will be discounted all day. The Club offers Trap, Skeet, Five Stand, and Sporting Clays, and is located at 3590 Arrowhead Drive. For more information call (775)882-9904. Everyone is invited to come!

Nick Jacques, Director of Bands at Carson High School, has been selected to join a marching band of more than 400 band directors from across the country in the historic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 23, 2023.

Elves and twinkling lights, hot chocolate and hot cider, Christmas cookies and candy canes, gift bags and magical memories await the lucky passengers on the Virginia Truckee Railroad Holiday steam trains that depart from the original 1870 depot in Virginia City.

Flavors of India in Carson City will hold Diwali (Festival of Lights) Saturday, Nov. 11 featuring music, dance, games, free henna tattoo, face painting, food, fashion show with Indian outfits.

Visit Carson City has hired Eric Brooks as its new Arts and Culture Program Manager. Brooks brings more than a decade of experience, having worked as an art director and gallery curator for various nonprofit organizations in northern Nevada.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is no small feat, as only approximately 6 percent of Boy Scouts will move up to the highest rank within the scouting hierarchy.

However, Carson City native and Bishop Manogue Catholic High School Senior Owen Hickenbottom will now be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout thanks to his service project achieved by the troop at Washoe Lake State Park.

Dustin Phillips, an 18-year-old Dayton resident, first got behind the wheel at only five-years-old, and since then, he’s dedicated his life to racing.

Now, next month he’ll be representing the Silver State in the Tulsa Shootout, the largest event for micro spring racing across the globe.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded late Tuesday morning to a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm inside a Carson City gun store.

Carson City’s Francisco’s Mexican Restaurant has been a long-standing feature in the Carson Valley, and expanded into the Carson Mall in 2013 in the spot previously housing Paradise Cove.

Now, after a decade of serving up Mexican fare inside the mall, the location will be closing.

Carson City students are recognizing and honoring military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, have been encouraged to attend or participate in events. Campus visitors should check in at the front office at each school site.

With winter weather forecast in northern Nevada, the Nevada Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to travel safely and avoid unnecessary trips during inclement weather.

The Symphony Youth Chorus, a tuition-free educational program of the Carson City Symphony Association, is open to children ages 4 to 12 and performs several times a year. Directed by Michelle Powers, the Chorus will present holiday performances in Carson City this year. Scheduled performances are:

Huckleberry and Jim had many a grand adventure aboard their raft, adventures that we can read all about in Mark Twain’s iconic book, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. But who would ever guess a Missouri man, Steve Kueny, could grow a 1,280-pound pumpkin, hollow it out, climb inside, and float 39 miles down the Missouri River inside a pumpkin he just happened to name, “Huckle Berry.”

Carson City Supervisor Lisa Schuette will be hosting her monthly ‘Coffee with Lisa’ this Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Cracker Box, 402 E. William Street from 7 to 8:30 a.m. All are welcome to come and discuss ideas, ask questions and share suggestions.

The Carson City Senior Center will host a weekly yoga class starting a Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday. The program is led by Ruth Chan a certified yoga instructor who teaches the Ashtanga style, with modifications to fit different physical levels, incorporating the 8-directional bending, twisting, and stretching to attain proper alignment.

Carson High girls cross country won their second straight Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association 5A Team State Title, this past Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. The girls defended the title, with five runners finishing in the top 10.

Jackie Pias Carlin’s art brings fresh air with tropical flora beauty to our wintery season. Carlin’s show, "Art with Aloha", will be in the Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, through Feb. 22, 2024. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 5 to 6:30 p.m. with an artist introduction at 5:30 p.m. The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. The Crowell Board Room is open for all the city’s public meetings and upon request.

A 22-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested early Sunday for suspicion of second DUI and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Snow expected Monday in the Sierra above Lake Tahoe has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory. Elsewhere, windy conditions with gusts up anywhere from 30 mph to 50 mph will continue around the Carson City area and surrounding counties.
