Carson City sheriff's deputies make DUI, domestic battery arrests over weekend
A 22-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested early Sunday for suspicion of second DUI and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
At around 1:15 a.m., a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to obey a traffic control device at the intersection of North Stewart and East William Street. According to the booking report, the vehicle went through a red light while completing a left hand turn.
The deputy stopped the vehicle at the intersection of North Fall and East William Street.
The deputy made contact with the driver and informed him as to why he was pulled over. The driver had red watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle. There were two additional passengers in the vehicle. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. The driver advised he had not but both of his friends had been drinking, the report states.
The deputy asked the driver to step out of the vehicle so the deputy could detect any an odor of alcohol outside of the vehicle. When the driver exited the vehicle, he lost balance and used the car to catch himself, the report states.
After asking the man questions and observing odd behavior, the deputy asked if he would consent to field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .226 and was arrested for suspicion of a second DUI. At the jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .205 and .216. He was arrested for second DUI with a prior conviction in October 2020 in South Lake Tahoe. Bail: $2,749.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of a second DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy was dispatched to a fast food restaurant for a report of a DUI driver. The reporting party stated the man was asleep at the wheel inside the drive through and believed the man was intoxicated.
Deputies arrived and observed a pickup in front of the drive through line with the entire drive through backed up with vehicles. The deputy pulled around to the end of the drive through and as they prepared to approach the subject, the vehicle exited the drive through and passed the officer. As the vehicle passed, the deputy ordered the vehicle to stop. The vehicle did not stop and exited the parking lot and turned east onto Eagle Station, the report states.
Another deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. While on the driver side of the vehicle, the officer made contact with the sole occupant. The deputy could smell a moderate odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle and the man's speech was slurred.
The officer asked the man if he would participate in field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment. He refused to provide a preliminary breath test. He was read the request for evidence, which the man was slightly argumentative and would not give a clear answer as to whether or not he would consent to testing, the report states.
The deputy applied for a warrant for a sample of the man's blood. The warrant was granted. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then taken to jail. He had a prior DUI conviction in 2019. Bail: $2,500.
— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy observed a Mazda sedan stopped on the side of the road with its emergency light on near 5th Street west of Airport Road.
As the officer drove closer to the vehicle, the emergency light shut off and the vehicle pulled out in front of the officer onto the road, stopping in the turn lane without any incoming traffic and then serving in the lane, crossing over the solid yellow lines three times. The deputy put on his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.
The officer observed the driver to have bloodshot, red and watery eyes and slurred speech. The driver consented to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests, the report states.
He told the deputy he had two beers, and then later admitting to having four with the last beer being one hour prior, the report states. He provided a preliminary breath test of .306. He was arrested and taken to the hospital to be medically cleared. He consented to a blood draw, which was taken at the hospital. He was then taken to jail. Bail: $1,137.
— A 30-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a residence and advised a woman at the residence was breaking windows and attacking her ex-spouse.
Deputies arrived and spoke with the spouse, who had large scratches on his neck and bite marks on his arms. He stated the injuries came from the woman, who had broken the window to his room and was inside the house. He stated he had to use his arms to push her from him to keep her from attacking him. He stated he was scratched and bit by the woman but that he did not fight back and only used his arms to keep her off of him, the report states.
The woman was interviewed. She stated she broke the window to the room and that the man had been seeing other women and she was not happy about that. She stated the man pushed her and she attacked him and that she was two months pregnant.
After further interviews, she was booked for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
