Holiday magic returns to the Comstock with train rides beginning Thanksgiving weekend
Elves and twinkling lights, hot chocolate and hot cider, Christmas cookies and candy canes, gift bags and magical memories await the lucky passengers on the Virginia Truckee Railroad Holiday steam trains that depart from the original 1870 depot in Virginia City.
The Candy Cane Express, a family favorite, will begin on the Friday after Thanksgiving and run on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, through Dec. 24.
This 45-minute round trip journey to Santa’s Christmas Workshop is sure to get your family in the Holiday mood with special treats, a reading of the 1872 “T’was The Night Before Christmas”, Christmas Carol sing-alongs, and of course, a visit with the Jolly Old Elf and his dear friend “Lollypop.”
All seats will be sold as reserved seating in groups of 2 and 4, with lap babies traveling for free. Tickets and seating chart are available online at virginiatruckee.com. Free parking is available.
For a more enchanting evening experience, the dazzling Train O’ Lights will bring to life a Holiday Fantasy Land. 100-year-old Steam Engine 29 and two beautifully decorated Pullman Coaches, along with the new Candy Cane Caboose, will be lit with thousands of LED lights as they wind along our beautifully decorated route to a charming Santa’s Workshop.
Each guest will receive a bag of treats including a light stick and other surprises. Hot chocolate and hot cider will be served, and Holiday music will complete the festive trip. The magic starts at 5:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 8pm, beginning November 24 and running Friday and Saturday evenings through Dec. 23.
