Sandoval Makes Final Cabinet Appointments Prior To Swearing In Today As Nevada Governor
CARSON CITY – Brian Sandoval has announced his final cabinet appointments prior to being sworn in as Nevada’s 29th governor today, including naming Bruce Breslow to head up the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Breslow has been serving in outgoing Gov. Jim Gibbons’ administration as executive director of the Nevada Agency for Nuclear Projects.
Of Breslow, Sandoval said: “For many Nevadans, the DMV is the public face of state government and I believe Bruce has the know-how and entrepreneurial spirit to make a real difference at this agency, just as he has throughout his career. I have charged him to focus on customer service and improved processes that make doing business with the DMV a more efficient and pleasant experience.”
Breslow has also served as commissioner and administrative law judge for the Transportation Services Agency under former Gov. Kenny Guinn. He is also the former mayor of Sparks, Nevada.
Sandoval has also named four veteran administrators as acting directors, including Greg Cox to head up Corrections, Michael Fischer over Cultural Affairs, David Gustafson for Information Technology and Chris Perry for Public Safety.
“Each of these administrators has extensive experience in their field, and I will look to their leadership for the upcoming session of the Nevada Legislature,” Sandoval said. “Greg, Mike, David and Chris have my full support to make the kind of changes needed in these important departments.”
Cox is currently deputy director for the Nevada Department of Corrections and is based in Las Vegas. He previously served as warden of the High Desert State Prison and the Southern Desert Correctional Center.
Fischer is currently director of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Gustafson is currently serving as deputy director of the Department of Information Technology.
Perry, who began his law enforcement career in 1982 as a trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol in Las Vegas, is currently serving as deputy director of the Department of Public Safety.
Sandoval is also appointing Christina Davis as director of constituent services in Carson City and Annalyn Bo Carrillo as boards and commissions deputy, based in Las Vegas.
Davis, who most recently worked for the Nevada Association of Counties, has also worked in the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office, the manager’s office for the City of Lake Havasu, Ariz., the Nevada Attorney General’s office, and with the Legislative Counsel Bureau.
Carrillo, a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, began working in the governor’s office as an intern for Guinn in 2003. She was named as a staff member in Gibbons’ office in 2007.
Sandoval also announced that Charles Harvey will remain as Nevada’s American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Director.
Harvey joined the state in September 2009. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1985 through 1990 as a manager of aircrew logistics and data analysis. Harvey also spent 13 years in Clark County government.
