Television cameras (and Walter Cronkite) were there and Walt Disney choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies.

Silver City Post Office Hosts Display on Resident Artist Program

Display of Work by Visiting Artists: For those who missed a December 2016 show featuring the artwork, essays, poems, assemblages, and photographs created by visiting artists at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City, some of the pieces are on display at the Silver City Post Office through March.

Rural Nevada, Carson City to receive a half-million dollars from state tourism

Desert Born Art Project on Display at Dayton Valley Library

Dayton, Nv. The Desert Born Art Project opened on Monday, August 29 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. Pamela Nesbit and Donna Nelson of Smith Valley, Nv. are two local area artists that have collaborated to create very unique art by combining old objects found on the desert and repurposing the objects into art. Their work will be on display through the month of September and the first couple weeks of October of this year. The exhibit is free at the Dayton Valley Branch Library.

Western Nevada College Professor Marilee Swirczek, driving force behind ‘Always Lost’ war exhibit, dies
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/18/2016 - 1:11pmMarilee Swirczek, a writer, professor of English, faculty member at Western Nevada College, and a driving force behind the highly acclaimed “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” photo exhibition, died Sunday.
Swirczek was project director for the “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” exhibition that originated in her creative writing class. The exhibition received nationwide recognition, with a national tour that began in 2010 and ends this July 29, 2016. Marilee was a former Carson City Supervisor from 1987 to 1989 and wife of Ron Swirczek, a member of the Carson City School Board. She was 68.

Writers in the Woods - Benjamin Busch

His memoir Dust to Dust ranges from a boyhood of fort building and exploration in rural New York to deployment during the worst of the war in Iraq.
He is also an actor, director and photographer, who portrayed Officer Anthony Colicchio in The Wire and is the writer/director of the film BRIGHT. He has been a contributor to Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, NPR’s All Things Considered and The Daily Beast.
