The Reading Partners Program is welcoming volunteers that would like to lend a hand to kids learning to read. Attend their short seminar today and you’ll be on your way helping instill a love of reading to the next generation. Get on the dance floor at Carson Lanes. You’ll find a beginner’s swing dance class, one for intermediate dancers, and a few hours of open dancing to show off your new moves.

WNC women's soccer match takes loss to Chico State

The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Team up with Mark Twain for a ghostly tour of our haunted downtown or you can choose a shorter tour that’s perfect for families. Keep reading, this is just the tip of the candy corn.

The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Downtown you’ll find the wine walk, a rummage sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, and the Fall Vintage Market at Due Sorella. Toast the season at Fandango: Oktoberfest has returned. Sassafras is the place for some bluesy Americana with Muddy Boots and the Porch Pounders. Help cheer on our new Wildcats Soccer Team as they take on UC Davis and shout GO BIG BLUE as the CHS Varsity team battles Galena at tonight’s Homecoming football game. Those not headed back to school might be headed back to the Playa: Burning Man has begun, so keep your eyes peeled for some crazy looking cars on the road. A new exhibit featuring local high school artists can be found downtown in the Community Development building next to City Hall.
WNC women's premier soccer team welcomes students

But with Western Nevada College forming a club program with premier, competitive club and intramural teams, students can now enjoy the sport while working toward a college degree, at whatever level of play fits them.
WNC men's soccer program signs five more players
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/23/2016 - 6:36pmWestern Nevada College soccer coach Ian Hill continued to add more firepower to the men's premier Carson City program when five new student athletes were introduced during a press conference on Wednesday.
Between first-team all-conference players Ryan Galvan and Santiago Martinez, the Wildcats are receiving two student athletes who combined for nearly 50 goals during their senior years at Carson and Hug high schools, respectively.
WNC's Peters signs with LA Dodgers, earns All-American honors

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Peters in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft, and by the beginning of the week, he and his representatives had worked out a contract with his favorite childhood team.

WNC scored four runs in the first inning and erupted for 11 in the seventh inning to oust host Trinidad State, 18-5, at Central Park in Trinidad, Colo.

The Wildcats of Carson City launched two homers and totaled 14 hits in a 9-5 victory against tournament host Trinidad State in Central Park. Bradley Lewis and Abe Yagi smashed two-run homers to spark unranked WNC in their first game of the season using metal bats.
