WNC women's soccer match takes loss to Chico State
Fourth place WNC Women's Soccer traveled to undefeated and second place Chico State on Sunday for their second game of the spring season and fell 3-0. Chico State improved to 3-0, while WNC dropped to 0-1-1 in WCSA Nor Cal Division play.
The WNC Lady Wildcats went into the game down three main starters and it showed as they struggled to find rhythm and possession during most of the match.
The Wildcats were low on substitutes so the game plan was to sit back in the first half and allow Chico State the ball and then attack in the second and it almost went to plan.
Unfortunately, Chico State scored with 30 seconds remaining in the first half and went into halftime leading 1-0.
The second half saw the Lady Wildcats come out strong and put together some possession but a mistake in back cost them a soft goal as they went behind 2-0.
Despite getting a couple of shots on goal WNC just couldn't find the killer pass for the break through and ended up giving up a counter goal as they pushed to get on the scoreline. WNC player of the game was Midfielder Sarah Hernandez from Reno, NV.
Goalkeeper Annie Aranda (Reno, NV.) made 11 saves on 14 shots on goal while Sarah Hernandez (Reno, NV.), Alexis Vega (Las Vegas, NV) and Stacy Ornelas (Reno, NV.) each had 2 shots on goal in the losing effort.
The Lady Wildcats continue WCSA Spring season play next Sunday as they travel to face the Sacramento State Hornets at 2 p.m.
