WNC Baseball: Wildcats beat Coyotes twice but finish second

It was only fitting that Western Nevada College won its final game at John L. Harvey Field on a well-executed bunt by a power hitter.
Daniel Nist's two-out bunt along the third-base line brought home Chandler Barkdull, providing WNC with a 2-1 Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball victory over College of Southern Nevada on Friday in Carson City.

WNC Softball: Robinson plays home run derby

What a day — or was it a season — that Western Nevada College's Dakota Robinson produced at the plate on Friday.
Robinson belted three homers and knocked in 11 runs as the surging Wildcats claimed both ends of a Scenic West Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from rival College of Southern Nevada, 16-4 and 15-1, in Henderson.

Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

WNC Baseball: Rain, lightning suspend final home baseball series

Heavy rain and lightning suspended the Western Nevada College-College of Southern Nevada baseball series on Thursday afternoon at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

The teams will pick up action at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Wildcats batting in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score tied at 2. Weather allowing, the teams will try to play two additional games following the completion of the suspended game.

Western Nevada College's showdown with College of Southern Nevada for the Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball title is in the hands of Mother Nature.

With rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for most of the week, the SWAC's top two teams have decided to move up their series a day.

WNC Softball: Wildcats make double header sweep Friday against Snow College

Western Nevada College Softball faced Snow College Friday for a doubleheader at Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City. With the wind blowing out, home runs seemed to be in the cards, and the Wildcats were dealing them. In game one, WNC put four out of the park to come out on top of the Badgers, 12-6. Noa Talia blasted two home runs to help the Wildcats take the second game, 12-9.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats stays on heels of Utah State Eastern for win

While his batting average has languished for most of the season, Western Nevada College sophomore catcher Sam Salyers' work ethic has not.

Extra batting practice paid off for Salyers on Friday afternoon as his two-run single was the difference in the Wildcats' 3-2 baseball victory over Utah State University Eastern at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

Years from now Western Nevada College baseball fans will say they watched DJ Peters play when he was in Wildcat blue and white uniform.

As his Major League Baseball draft stock continues to rise during his sophomore season, Peters ascended the Wildcat record book with his 13th home run of the season on Sunday at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

We know better than trying to predict springtime weather in the Sierra foothills. A new wave of showers is expected Monday, but it could show up whenever it likes. Rain or shine, Earth Day in Reno’s Idlewild Park is always fun and informative. WNC Softball: Wildcat's George Blanks Spartans for Second Time

Kristina George has Colorado Northwestern's number. The Western Nevada College sophomore pitcher of Carson City blanked the Spartans for the second time this season, 6-0, in the opener of a four-game Scenic West Athletic Conference softball series on Friday in Rangely, Colo.

WNC Athletics: Wildcats' baseball pitching too much for Bruins; softball dealt pair of losses

Call Eric Flores an opportunist. The Western Nevada College freshman first baseman has made the most of his part-time role with the Wildcats the spring.

On Saturday afternoon, Flores took advantage of a starting role, blasting a first-inning grand slam as WNC won the opening game of a Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader against Salt Lake, 10-1, at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

WNC Sports: Wildcats softball tops Salt Lake in OT; Baseball brings home pair of wins

Western Nevada College and Salt Lake Community College went 10 innings before WNC topped Salt Lake, 3-2, in game one of the weekend's four game series. Salt Lake is ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA poll, and have only lost four games this season. Pitcher Kristina George earned the win for the Wildcats.

WNC Baseball: Ragan changes Wildcats' fortunes

Jordan Ragan is fast becoming Western Nevada College baseball team's momentum changer. After dropping two straight games against College of Southern Idaho at Skip Walker Field in Twin Falls, the freshman left-hander righted the Wildcats with a five-hitter over seven innings in a 10-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory. CSI won Saturday's opening game, 6-4, behind a six-run first inning.

Gotta believe! Those were the words of encouragement from coach Leah Wentworth that Western Nevada College took to heart after falling behind 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning on Friday at Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City.

WNC Baseball: SWAC Honors Lichty, Ragan

Western Nevada College sophomore catcher Tim Lichty recently became the first two-time winner of the 2016 Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week baseball honor.

In addition, Lichty's Wildcat teammate, freshman Jordan Ragan, earned the SWAC's Pitcher of the Week award for his complete-game shutout against conference leader College of Southern Nevada on April 2.

WNC Baseball: Ragan's masterpiece keeps 'Cats in the hunt

Western Nevada College freshman pitcher Jordan Ragan picked an opportune time to throw his first complete-game shutout on Saturday. Facing one of the top junior college baseball programs in the country and the Scenic West Athletic Conference leaders, Ragan delivered a three-hit shutout.

WNC Softball: Fast start helps Wildcats to double header split with Coyotes

After allowing College of Southern Nevada to gain the upper hand early on Friday, Western Nevada set the offensive tone on Saturday at Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City.

For the first time in the series, the Wildcats got a jump on the Coyotes, scoring four times in the first frame en route to a 6-0 victory. However, the Wildcats were unable to hold a four-run edge in Game 2, losing 10-8.

Rivalry weekend got off to an uplifting start for the Western Nevada College Wildcats on Friday. Bailey Henderson and Makaylee Jaussi socked two-run doubles and Briauna Carter launched a three-run homer as WNC won the Scenic West Athletic Conference softball series opener with a 10-3 victory in Carson City.

Brody Westmoreland stroked a game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning as College of Southern Nevada completed a Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of Western Nevada College, 4-3, on Friday in Henderson.
