The Nevada Day Golf Tournament is returning to Carson City this Nevada Day after a long absence from the capital city.

According to Ken Hamilton, Executive Director of Nevada Day, the Golf Tournament is making a comeback this year for the first time in over a decade.

Carson City Kiwanis hosted the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Golf Tournament and Carson City Bench Press Championships at Silver Oak Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The sold-out event resulted in 140 golfers teeing off and 9 weightlifters bench pressing to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and over $3,000 for the Marilyn Elaine Scholarship.

Carson City Kiwanis is hosting its seventh annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday with several activities for all to enjoy. The Nevada Day Committee would like to officially announce that, due to current conditions, the traditional Nevada Day Celebration will have a new look this year.

The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force met Thursday with seven counties flagged last week for having an elevated risk of transmission of the coronavirus. Based on data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, six of the seven counties are still meeting at least two of the three criteria, signaling a sustained elevated risk of transmission.

Jim Sapien is the 2020 Sunday Men’s Club champion at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Sapien fired a 74-75 to best Dan Wilson by four strokes (77-76) during the two-day club championship Aug. 22-23. Brian Sweet (74-80) and Michael Moriarty (79-75) tied for third, while Scott Lusty was the low net (after handicap is applied) champion over the field with 141.

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 14 and July 16 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ranch and Lake courses. Thirty members competed in the two-day net tournament. Jeri Mihelic won the tournament with a net score of 142. Gail Teig was the runner-up with a score of 143 and Terri Ianiro was the 3rd place winner with a score of 147.

It was an event to remember — and forget — during the 31st American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada.

Mardy Fish won the 31st American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Sunday with a three-round total of 76 in the Stableford scoring system used at the popular celebrity golf tournament.

The 31st annual American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe next week will still bring over 70 celebrities to the greens of Edgewood Tahoe, but this year spectators will be absent from both the beach and the course.

CARSON CITY — A half dozen Speech and Debate students from Carson High School earned national rankings at an Online National Speech and Debate Tournament earlier this month, June 14-20. The contest featured 1,322 schools and more than 5,300 students across the nation.

Carson City Kiwanis will host the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City, NV. Dear Friends, I wanted to send my very best wishes to each of you for a peaceful and safe Spring Break. During the past three weeks, I have marveled at the professional services and selfless acts of kindness you have delivered during one of the most incredible events of my career.

As holy week approaches — Passover Wednesday night and Easter on Sunday — the celebration of those holidays will look different this year.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has already limited public gatherings of 10 or more people, but as the holidays near, his latest emergency directive makes it clear places of worship should not be planning in-person services. Drive-in and pop-up services also are prohibited during the duration of the state’s emergency declaration.

Sierra Lutheran High School’s Makez Berger was named the Western League All-Division Boys Basketball League Player of the Year, and SLHS boys coach Ben Walther was selected Coach of the Year headlining 11 individuals from the school who were honored in voting by league coaches.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

A late second-half surge helped No. 11 seeded Wyoming top No. 3 Nevada 74-71 in the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

It will be the last round for country music’s Rascal Flatts and the band will celebrate its 20th anniversary and farewell tour on Saturday, July 11, at Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena.

Congratulations to the Carson High School Bowling Team who are the Northern Nevada champs after the team beat Reed High School 24 to 21 to win the HDIBP championship Wednesday at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.
