A 22-year-old New York City man was arrested Wednesday and faces felony credit card fraud, forgery and other charges after allegedly stealing information to book a room at a local motel, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Check of 186 sex offenders in Lyon County and Fallon results in one arrest, 26 not in compliance

A recent check of 186 sex offenders in Lyon County and Fallon resulted in one arrest and 26 people found to not be in compliance with registration requirements, the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Parole and Probation announced Tuesday.

The multi-agency collaborative effort, called "Operation Vigilance" was done to verify sex offender registration compliance and was conducted in Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington, Fernley, Stagecoach and Fallon.

Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition launches bicycle safety campaign

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has launched a multimedia education campaign to promote safe bicycling for Tahoe visitors and residents.

“We hope these safety tips help ensure people enjoy riding their bicycles at Lake Tahoe,” said Curtis Fong, vice president of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. “This is the greatest and most beautiful place in the world to ride a bike, and we want to help make sure that bicyclists are aware of safe riding practices when bicycling on roadways or bike paths around Lake Tahoe.”

Procession for fallen firefighters travels through Carson City

Honor guard processions were held Wednesday for two U.S. Bureau of Land Management firefighters who died Sunday in a rollover crash. A procession was held for Will Hawkins, 22 of Reno and Jacob M. O’Malley, 27, of Zephyr Cove which began in Reno and went to Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

Suspect in Carson City auto parts store robbery in custody, second suspect remains at large

UPDATE 1:50PM: Carson City Sheriff's Office detectives have released the name and a photo of the suspect who remains at large following Monday's armed robbery of the O'Reilly Auto Parts store on North Carson Street. Jermaine Jordan is the second suspect, considered armed and dangerous and wanted for armed robbery.
Detectives say he may have fled Carson City for Stockton or Oakland, California, Oregon or Boise, Idaho.

Suspected pipe bomb at Tahoe government center prompts Carson City courthouse sweep

The alleged bomb has been considered a hoax device meant to cause the major response by law enforcement that it did, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler. Evidence is being gathered and roads will soon reopen.

A suspected pipe bomb discovered in front of the South Lake Tahoe Police station and government center Wednesday morning prompted the Carson City Sheriff's Office to do a sweep of the courthouse area on Musser Street in which a suspicious bag was discovered.

Fire destroys Tahoe Keys condos in South Lake Tahoe

Eight condo units inside a multi-family structure were destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon in the Tahoe Keys, according to South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue. One family was evacuated and there were no injuries or fatalities.

Damage estimates will exceed $3 million, said South Lake Tahoe spokeswoman Tracy Franklin. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man found shot to death in south Carson City, Washoe Tribe police investigating

UPDATE: A adult male was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds Friday morning in south Carson City on tribal land, said Washoe Tribe Police Chief David Blackeye. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
