Contra dancing is similar to line dancing and square dancing, and it's always done to LIVE music. It's easy to learn, and a caller calls out all the dance moves. It's fun, sociable and aerobic.

Weekend air show at South Lake Tahoe canceled

The 25th Annual Lake of the Sky Airshow at the Lake Tahoe Airport has been canceled Saturday due to the air quality conditions by the two large fires burning outside of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Also canceled was Sunday's Young Eagles Flights.

Friday night's "Pre-Flight Party" with special guest speaker WWII Triple Ace “Bud” Anderson is still confirmed. The Pre-Flight party is being held at the Flight Deck located at Lake Tahoe Airport beginning at 5:30pm. “Bud” will be joined with Vietnam Fighter Pilots Pete "Viper" Pettigrew & Mike "Wizard" McCabe.

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center - Hopefest Benefit Concert - Canceled

The HopeFest Benefit Concert at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center has been canceled due to hazardous air quality from Rim Fire smoke. Carson Tahoe Health Foundation had net proceeds of over $50,000 for their 2012 2nd Annual Carson City HopeFest fundraiser. The CTH Foundation is the only non-profit organization focused on supporting Carson area cancer patients with living expenses. PLEASE HELP FILL the Hope Chest with your generous donation.

Inaugural Lake Tahoe crawfish festival set for Aug. 24

In the throes of a sun-drenched late Lake Tahoe summer day, MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa will bite the head, pinch the tail and build the body Aug. 24 in a daylong feast and flex protein fest for the eyes, abs and everything in between.

Louisiana will have nothing on Lake Tahoe when it's over.

The inaugural Boil 'n Fry Day Festival is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the MontBleu Outdoor Event Center, carnival games, hot wings, cold beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans partygoers.

Annual Carson City Historical Society Ice Cream Social this Saturday

With tradition, community spirit and the launch of the Carson City jazz festival in mind, residents are welcome to a cool summer evening with music and sweet treats as the Carson City Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social this Saturday.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and feature live music, mountain men and quilters. The event takes place at Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson Street. The event is free to get in and costs $3 to enjoy the ice cream and cookies.

July 4 fireworks spectacular over Carson City light up the night

Celebrating the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department’s 150th anniversary, the volunteer fire department in Silver City was established in 1863, one year before Nevada became a state, during the era of the great Comstock Lode.

This once sprawling little city was rich in silver ore and boasted a population of over 1200 residents. 150 years later, this small town and its volunteer fire department are still rich in tradition and community spirit.

The next barbecue will be held on the Carson Street lot, across from the casino on Saturday, June 29th from 1:00 until 7:00 PM. Rotary Club of Carson City Announces Winners of Second Annual Beer and Pizza Championships

CARSON CITY, NV - For the second year in a row, area residents came out by the hundreds to enjoy an evening of pizza, beer, music and fundraising for a good cause. The second annual Carson City Rotary Club Beer and Pizza Championships was a big success, raising more than $25,000 to assist with a number of community needs.

Putting Main Street on a Road Diet

On March 14th I attended a workshop presented by the Carson City Public Works Department. The presentation outlined a proposal to create a pedestrian-friendly environment on Carson Street through the downtown area of Carson City between Fifth Street and Ann Street. This Road Diet, as they are commonly called, would include using striping to reduce travel lanes from four to two, and add on-street parallel parking.

More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

It might have been raining across much of Northern California, but last week’s storm brought snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts – more than 3.5 feet of the white stuff, making for a great ski weekend.

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”
