Partnership Carson City is looking for volunteers to teach English as a Second Language. Can you speak, read, and write in English? Then you can teach English to one to three students. You can help your student use the textbook, stopping to explain or help with pronunciation.

Can you help one-on-one with flashcards and pronunciation? Students in citizenship classes will be studying and memorizing the 100 civics test questions, practicing writing and reading short English sentences, and practicing vocabulary.

CARSON CITY — Nevada motorists who have been unable to make an appointment at DMV offices before their expiration date will benefit from two new initiatives announced by the Department of Motor Vehicles on Tuesday.

CARSON CITY — Chinese immigrants were abundant in the mining camps of the Sierra Nevada in the latter half of the 19th century.

In the 1860s, the first Chinese immigrants found their way to Aurora, Nevada and by the 1870s, they had settled along King Street in Bodie, California, creating a sizeable Chinatown. By the 1880s, they cornered the woodcutting market, providing cordwood and charcoal to neighboring residents, businesses, and ranches.
