CARSON CITY — Chinese immigrants were abundant in the mining camps of the Sierra Nevada in the latter half of the 19th century.

Each June, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recognizes quality of life, community and economic growth achievements.

At the Chamber annual meeting on June 13, Chamber Chairman of the Board Robert Fredlund will honor seven individuals or businesses that personify what Mayor Robert Crowell is so often proud to state, “Carson City is a great place to live, work, and play.”

Advocates to End Domestic Violence and Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans in Carson City, the Family Support Council in Douglas County, and Community Chest and Community Services Agency in Lyon County are among local agencies awarded fiscal year grants to serve victims of crime, the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services announced Monday.

CARSON CITY — The construction of the Transcontinental Railroad is one of American’s milestone achievements, but it took a multinational workforce to get it done.

Let's hear it for the first weekend of the new year, because it won't happen again for another 12 months.

The first weekend of 2019 also means the first Saturday of the month, which is the day of the Downtown Business Association Monthly Wine Walk in downtown Carson City, come rain, snow, wind or shine.

CARSON CITY — World War I changed America, both at home and abroad. On a global scale, those changes led to an expanded role for the United States in world affairs. CARSON CITY — Florence Phillips is 88 years old, and has dedicated the last 15 years to helping people in our community learn English and even become citizens. Because of her hard work, and the work of her tutors and students, the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada was nominated by CNN Heroes.

Paul Dominique Laxalt, a former Nevada Governor, United States Senator, Lieutenant Governor and District Attorney, and one of former President Ronald Reagan’s closest friends in politics, died at a healthcare facility in Northern Virginia on Monday. He was 96.

The Nevada Board of Museums and History gave final approval Monday to list both the Wilhelm and William Lampe Ranch and the Louis and Elmer Stodieck Ranch in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. The Nevada State Register is the State’s official list of places worthy of preservation.
