House candidate to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Patricia Ackerman, a Democratic primary candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.
Having grown up the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who had to start their lives over from scratch, Patricia learned self-confidence and self-reliance at an early age, qualities that served her well throughout her quite adventurous life, during which she gained expertise in interior landscaping and mountaineering, stage and screen acting, and undercover work inside Russia for the FBI.
Patricia studied for years to become a Deepak Chopra-certified teacher of the holistic/wellness lifestyle, including Meditation, Yoga, and Ayurveda. She and her husband Todd, a retired math teacher, moved Minden in 2002, where they have lived a sustainable lifestyle, enjoyed the nearby mountains, and organized on behalf of numerous progressive causes.
An Emerge Nevada graduate, Patricia ran an aggressive Assembly campaign against District 39 Republican Jim Wheeler in 2018. Building on that heightened public profile, this summer she declared herself a CD-2 candidate in the June 9th Democratic primary. The winner will face incumbent Republican Mark Amodei in the November 3rd general election.
Patricia lists her top priorities as more accessible and affordable rural health care, smarter funding mechanisms for public education, increased use of renewable energy, and action to stop climate change. She describes herself as empathetic, a critical thinker, an intense listener and a problem solver.
This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30th, at the Carson City Round Table Pizza, 3325 Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men’s Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City’s Democratic HQ. An all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar lunch buffet is available for $7.99. Water is free, extra charge for fountain drinks. Suggested donations of $5 or more gratefully accepted but are not required. All are welcome.
