BOO-NANAZA 2017
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 08/24/2017 - 2:23pmCarson City Library, Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, and Southwest Gas are teaming up to host a BOO-NANZA with trick or treating, STEAM activities, a costume contest, spooky decorations, and a movie!
This event will be held on Wednesday, October 25 from 4-6 PM at the Community Center, Library, and Aquatic Facility. BOO-NANZA is a free, safe, and spooky environment for children to participate in Halloween fun. The first 100 participants will receive a bag to use for trick or treating.
I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: July 15 – 16

If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

You'll have to choose between a Beatles Experience in McFadden Plaza and the concert at the Brewery Arts Center Minnesota Street Stage, where the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies kick off the first of the Levitt Concert Summer Series. Get yourself registered for the Karson Kruzerz' annual 'Run Whatcha Brung' at the Max Casino and stick around for Route 66 on the stage. You'll have to keep reading for the rest of it - summer fun has arrived in full force.

Head down to Mills Park for the first of the rat-rods rolling in for this weekend’s Rockabilly Riot and to catch the motorcycle cops running some practice loops around the obstacle course. Seniors can head to the Community Center for vouchers good at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, residency and income restrictions apply. Join Mo’z Motley Blues on the lawn of the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch for a summer twilight concert – bring a chair or blanket, I suggest some bug spray and a picnic, as well.

Snowshoe Thompson comes to life at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch as Steven Hale performs a Chautauqua tonight. Head over to the Carson Mall for their Home and Garden Show. The Greenhouse Garden Center has set up lovely displays and will help you find just the right thing to make your yard a little slice of heaven. Tonight you can choose a jazz jam, karaoke, or trivia to get you over the mid-week hump.

It’s a very chilly start to the new year, but at least the wind has died down. I’ll leave predictions of accumulation up to the weather gurus, but if you don’t need to drive in the icy conditions, stay safe and cozy at home. Christmas tree recycling begins today in Carson City. Leave your tree, sans decorations and cut into three foot sections, out by your curb on your regular trash day. Be safe out there, stay warm, and good luck with all your resolutions.

There’s also concern that rain could cause flash flooding in the Little Valley Fire area in Washoe Valley and Emerald Fire area at south shore Lake Tahoe.

The 2015 Appeal For Kids ended on January 31 and our generous community stepped up once again to help local children in crisis. The Cowboy Mardi Gras fundraiser on February 26 was our best ever. Eeveryone had a great time for a great cause! Every dollar raised will be used to pay for operating expenses at Austin's House.

Sandoval with a commemorative coin depicting both the recently christened USNS Carson City and the historic USS Carson City, a Tacoma-class frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.

Enjoy some indoor entertainment with your little ones at Carson City Library’s weekly story time. Afterwards, head across the street to Browser’s Corner Book Store to take advantage of their half-off sale. Good luck to all the kids trying out for Wild Horse Children’s Theaters next performance. The Nevada Artist Association has just switched up their gallery and has a New Year’s show to offer you. The group also works with the Carson Visitor Bureau and showcases a different artist each month in the Visitors’ Center: currently Bob Hickox. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception this evening for the January artist in their revolving Backseat Gallery, so head down at 5 p.m. for some finger food and the unveiling.
