Craft Fair and Quartermania set for Saturday in Old Town Dayton
The community is invited to attend a Craft Fair and Quartermania, hosted by St. Ann’s Women’s Group and Dayton Valley Lion’s Club, Saturday at Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike St., in Old Town Dayton.
This family event begins at 3 p.m.with the Craft Fair, which will continue into the evening, and Quartermania at 5 p.m. The combined event takes place to raise money for both organization’s charitable and community outreach.
Quartermania is new to Dayton, and is a cross between an auction and bingo. The $10 buy-in includes a hotdog, chips, drink and a paddle with which to bid. Bring lots of quarters for bidding.
Lions will donate $5 back to St. Ann’s for every vendor that is visited, and is the perfect opportunity to do some Christmas and holiday shopping.
“There will be handmade crafts, fused glass jewelry, horse shoe decorations, Wildtree is coming...so holiday food items, jams, dips, and more,” said Jeanne Broughton who co-chairs with Heather Motta. “We have an author and a gentleman that makes rings out of quarters, beauty products...an array.”
The Lions are known for their commitment to providing people with the gift of sight, through eyeglass recycling programs and free screenings. The local chapter’s focus is to raise money for specialized equipment that will be used locally.
“The Lions are working to raise money to purchase our own vision screening machine, which helps us screen children from infancy to school age, which is the best time to catch issues,” said Monica McRae. “This will allow us to take preventative measures to ensure our children have the best chance for healthy eye vision for the rest of their lives.
“Our hope is to be a resource for local schools and daycares so that children can be screened before the age of 5-6 when the child's eyes are done forming.”
Locally, St. Ann’s supports various events and community outreach programs, including an Angel Tree at Christmas, and food to the under-served throughout the year, as well as holiday gift baskets. Lions members help at Dayton Food Pantry regularly, as well.
“We look forward to hosting our community at a fun event with the goal of raising money that will go directly back to the community,” Broughton said. “Especially during this time of year, we are reminded to be grateful and to look out for our neighbors and this is a way we can all come together to achieve these goals.”
