I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: April 9-10

Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. It is always arranged chronologically by start time.

Nevada Humane Society update on Carson the Cat: Lifesaving journey continues
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/07/2016 - 9:43amLast week we began the lifesaving adventure of Carson, a handsome, young tabby cat who was hit by a car in Carson City.
His injuries were severe — bruising and scrapes all over the body, a broken jaw and two broken front legs. We fixed up his jaw here at our Nevada Humane Society veterinary clinic and then sent him to a local specialist—Sierra Veterinary Specialists. We told you his outcome was good, but we left you hanging for the next step of his adventure. Well, wait no more.
Being Well Carson City: A Resolution or a Revolution?

New exhibit by photo-journalist Jeff Scheid features Nevada Fallini ranching family
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 07/28/2015 - 4:33pmThe story of one of the most rugged and resilient Nevada families, as told by one of the state’s most enduring journalists comes to the Nevada State Museum, Carson City Thursday, August 13 as photojournalist Jeff Scheid premieres a one-year exhibit, “Ranching in the High Desert: Five Generations, One Family.”
The exhibit text and labels that explain Scheid’s photos are written by Jennifer Robison. The exhibit debuts in the museum’s South Changing Gallery with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. that is free and open to the public.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care wins big during contest at celebrity golf tournament

American Century Investments, NBC Sports extend Tahoe golf partnership through 2022

The championship will continue to take place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe as a result of the agreement, jointly announced by American Century Investments and NBC Sports, owner and operator of the championship.

Among the headliners to warm up and sign autographs at the famed Tahoe South course were defending 2014 champion Mark Rypien, retired New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, American Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain and first-timer Justin Timberlake.

The movies created by George Lucas made celebrities of most all the actors involved, but today you can enjoy a little time with some celebrities of a home-grown nature. Bike Month in Carson City always features a Celebrity Bike Ride: past years have had the mayor, city leaders, officials, and other notables. Meet up at Telegraph Square for a short ceremony celebrating an award from the League of American Bicyclists for a Bicycle Friendly Community and the many new trails recently built in our valley.

Dayton artist unveils painting of living Nevada governors and elected officials

The painting celebrates the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and will raise funds for the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and promotion of the Comstock Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.

Set in the windy city during the roaring 1920's, the show follows the stories of two murderers - nightclub singer Velma Kelly, who kills her husband and sister when she finds them cheating on her; and aspiring vaudeville singer Roxie Hart, who murders her lover for promising to get her into show biz, only to get her into bed.

Local celebrities will be waiting tables and competing for the most tips to raise money for the organization's operations.
Dinner tickets are $50, and reservations can be made for either the 5:00 p.m. or the 7:30 p.m. seating. Diners will get to chose from three entrees.
