7th Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer golf, bench press tourney raises more than $13K
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/22/2020 - 7:25amCarson City Kiwanis hosted the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Golf Tournament and Carson City Bench Press Championships at Silver Oak Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The sold-out event resulted in 140 golfers teeing off and 9 weightlifters bench pressing to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and over $3,000 for the Marilyn Elaine Scholarship.

Currently, the Club activities are hosted at Pau Wa Lu Middle School, but due to school events and availability of classrooms, there are many limitations to what the Club can provide to the youth of Carson Valley without having its own location.

Sierra Lutheran alum of Carson City chases another tiger tail in pursuit of doctorate

After the Carson City product received his Bachelors of Science in Psychology, with a Minor in Linguistics last year from Louisiana State University, the LSU Tigers alum, and 2014 Sierra Lutheran High School graduate, is now pursuing study of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at LSU.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is free. Activities include performances by Mexican and Aztec folkloric dancers, an exhibition of altars, and Day of the Dead crafts including sugar skull decorating and face painting for youngsters.
