Lisa Schuette and Bob Truesdale danced an East Coast swing medley to garner first place in the "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest April 27 at High Sierra Swing Dance Club's sixth-annual Spring Ball at the Carson Nugget.

There will be a ceremony, followed by a cocktail reception with hosted wine and beer bar, to announce the winners of the Carson Memories contest. The winners will remain secret until the ceremony.

The event will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 5:30 – 6:30 pm on the second floor outside the banquet rooms at the Carson Nugget in Carson City.

Three winners will receive prizes outlined below.
1st place-$500 cash.
2nd place-iPad.
3rd place-Kindle Fire.
Honorable mentions will also be announced.

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

The region's premiere women’s event, The 11th Annual Nevada Women's Expo, will take place on March 23-24 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Donned in costumes, but without the protection of wet suits, Special Olympics athletes and their supporters will jump into icy waters on March 23 for the annual South Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Northern Nevada and California.

The mural already features special Carson City landmarks, people and events and there is room for 15 additions. So, the Carson Nugget is looking for photographs that depict memorable Carson moments – dating anytime from
pre-1900 to present day – to add to the mural. The mural is located outside the banquet rooms and will be seen by thousands of people each year.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet takes the stage this summer to present, Giselle, which is possibly the best-loved of all the world's ballets. This profound folk tale comes to life through music, drama and over 30 professional dancers who will share this story of doomed love ... complete with jealousy, madness and vengeful ghosts. Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest 2012 has announced the winners of its Show and Shine, held on June 30 in downtown Carson City. A great day was had by all – the weather cooperated – and people strolled among the beautiful vehicles and chatted with the owners and restorers. The CCSO 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge attracted a dedicated crowd who watched all the competitors and cheered their favorites on to victory in all the competitions – Continuous Ride, Slow Ride, Team Ride, and the spectacular Last Man Standing.
