It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

With a recent sanitation fogger obtained by the Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City Cinema Club will show its first film of the year, the1953 classic “Mogambo” this Tuesday, Jan. 5 at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 West King Street.

Reno native Dawn Wells, who starred as Mary Ann in the popular 1960s sitcom “Gilligan’s Island,” died Wednesday of causes related to COVID-19 in Los Angeles, according to her publicist. She was 82.

The Brewery Arts Center has published a video giving an update on how Carson City's local art non-profit adapted to life during COVID-19 and the creative ways they brought their mission to the community during challenging times.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with local arts enthusiast Michael Tedesco once again to organize Carson City’s "Unsilent Night." The event is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December.

There wasn't an official Nevada Day parade in the state capital this year, but Western Nevada College's "Reverse Parade" in Carson City brought some festivities on Saturday.

The Brewery Arts Center and Carson City have teamed up with musician Eric Henry Andersen for an updated version of Home Means Nevada.

Stop by the Nevada Artists Association now to see the Nevada Day show, hosting art made from local artists through the end of December.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

For the second year, Nevada Day has its own brew to call its own, made at Carson City's own Shoe Tree Brewing Company.

The Nevada Builders Alliance, owner of the Bank Saloon, has requested assistance by the Brewery Arts Center to solicit proposals from local artists to beautify the electric transformer box located at their property on the corner of Carson and 5th streets. The owners of the property are looking for designs that will go with the established aesthetic of both inside and outside of the bank saloon.

Celebrate Nevada’s most cherished time of the year in the safety of your own vehicle at Western Nevada College on Oct. 30 and 31. For many there will be a major void in their social calendars to fill on Nevada Day without the annual parade to attend.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with Carson City Toyota, Western Nevada College, and the Carson City Classic Cinema Club to present the inaugural “Made in Nevada” Film Festival, double feature drive-in movies on Oct. 30 and 31, 2020 at the Western Nevada College campus.

Shoe Tree Brewing Co. was awarded Gold and Bronze medals at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition, presented by the Brewers Association. The best beers in 91 beer categories covering 170 different beer styles (including all subcategories) were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals during a virtual ceremony Friday, October 16, hosted on The Brewing Network.

Fall-themed train rides from the Virginia Truckee Railroad Company and the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A virtual “Light After Dark” fitness event will be held on Saturday to support the Carson City-based Advocated to End Domestic Violence program. The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to create a new ordinance relating to hemp cultivation within city limits on Thursday, allowing for indoor cultivation within certain zoning districts, effectively blocking outdoor agricultural cultivation.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. 

All the work in these shows is from Nevada Artist Association members. These shows are open to the public through October 23rd.

If you haven't come out to see the Brewery Arts Center's Flatbed Concert Series this summer, this Saturday is your last chance! The BAC will be bringing the rock band "Silver" to the West Side of Carson City beginning at 4:30 p.m.
