James Smack says it can be quite difficult to have a conversation or state facts on public affairs television with today’s progressives of the Obama/Clinton/Sanders ilk. The statist liberal crowd is used to controlling media narratives, and they don’t brook dissent or facts and logic that undermine their control.

When a conservative brings up a valid point or question, they get flustered and angry. Instead of a thoughtful, constructive, respectful answer, the conservative often gets shouted down, not debated in a reasonable exchange between civilized discussants.

Carson City Sheriff: Few incidents over Nevada Day, Halloween weekend festivities

With Halloween festivities celebrated Friday in Carson City and Nevada Day arriving Saturday, Carson City experienced very few problems associated with festivities, sheriff Ken Furlong said.

“This weekend was an enormous success in that we had very few incidents to speak of requiring intervention during the parade, during Halloween activities and during the carnival,” said Furlong. “With the number of very well organized activities, families, participants and viewers had a lot of fun without crossing the line. I’m really pleased with that.”

Man shot twice in the legs at Airport Road residence; suspect in custody

UPDATE: The suspect in a shooting of a 71-year-old victim in a domestic dispute Friday night has been identified as Andrew Seth Harris, 47, of Carson City. The suspect was initially identified by officers on scene as female. It was determined during the investigation the suspect is legally a man.

FBI offers $10,000 reward for arrest and conviction of Alexander Morfin

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Alexander Morfin, 26, of Modesto who is considered armed and dangerous. Morfin may be in Nevada, California or Mexico, according to the FBI. He is wanted for his alleged involvement in the 2008 murder of Victor Gaona, 37, of Modesto, Calif.

Morfin is a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He stands 5 feet, ten inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

Light after Dark 5K/10K Walk/Run is to help raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault by lighting the way. Bringing light to domestic violence and sexual assault is our goal for the Light after Dark Walk/Run. We want victims and survivors to know that there is LIGHT AFTER DARK.

The race is Saturday, Oct. 17th at 6:00pm at Riverview Park in Carson City. This year’s event is being dedicated in memory of Kirsten Krasovec, a Carson City woman whose life was taken at the hands of domestic violence.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man arrested on sexual assault warrant

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested a Carson City man on a felony warrant for sexual assault and lewdness with a child under 14 years of age.

According to the arrest report, Robert Scott Proctor, 53, was arrested Friday night at his home on Condor Circle. His bail was set at $500,000.

Other arrests:

— Laura Musgrave, 35, was arrested for felony charge indecent exposure, 1800 block of Mountain St. The arresting deputy retrieved written statement from a witness that the accused was urinating by their vehicle. Bail: $5,000

Major League Baseball has recently come out with a domestic violence/child abuse policy. While it is a start, the policy is very weak overall. If you read the policy, that fits on one page, you will see that it leaves a lot of doors open and a lot left to be desired. It has no concrete punishments. Jacob Martin Madden was jailed earlier Sunday on a felony drug charge after officers found 1.8 grams of heroin during a traffic stop for speeding. He was originally stopped for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone at Carson and Robinson streets. A K9 drug dog, Ivo, did an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which led to a positive alert and subsequent search.
