Maddie’s Fund delivers for Nevada Humane Society in Carson City

More than $300,000 has been awarded to the Nevada Humane Society (NHS) by Maddie’s Fund, a nationally known family foundation based in Pleasanton, California, to expand life-saving efforts at the brand-new Carson City Animal Shelter.

Supervisor Brad Bonkowski to Hold “Breakfast with Brad” Friday, October 7

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, October 7, from 7:00 to 8:00 am at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend.

“There are so many good things going on in Carson City right now. The Animal Shelter is finally completed and animals have taken up residence, the paver sidewalks are being installed on Carson Street and fall is in the air!” Brad said, adding “I am looking forward to Nevada Day and to Election Day. I encourage anyone with questions, concerns or ideas to come down and talk”.

Doors open at 11:30 AM and the first game starts at 12:30 PM. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5. Special games are $1 each. We also have a 50/50 raffle and door prizes too. No need to worry about lunch we offer hot dogs at our snack bar and sometimes the wonderful volunteers will bring a yummy homemade soup.

It’s hard to believe that nearly two years ago we began a partnership with Carson City, as the city selected Nevada Humane Society to lead Carson City Animal Services. Our tasks would not only include pet adoptions and animal sheltering, but the animal regulation services too.

Dogs run, walk for cats at CASI 5K9

It isn't every day you find a dog willing to do something for a cat.

But that's exactly what happened Sunday morning at Riverview Park off East Fifth Street in Carson City when dozens of canines and their humans participated in CASI's annual 5K9 Run/Walk.

New animal shelter on pace for October completion

Construction of the new Carson City Animal Services shelter at the corner of Airport Road and Butti Way is progressing, said Carson City Public Works Director Darren Shulz, with completion scheduled for early October.

Voting as YOUR Representative

In response to Mr. Waclo's letter dated July 19, 2016, his statements regarding my positions are not accurate.

I opposed the 1/8th cent sales tax because voters were denied their right to vote. This tax includes funding for narrowing the downtown street and is similar to a project previously voted against by the citizens. Based upon past and current input received, nothing has changed.

The underground utility work would have been required and the funds were available, even if the narrowing of Carson Street had NOT occurred. That is a fact.

CASI's Bark, Wine and Dine: Another big thank you to Carson City

On July 9, Carson Animal Services Initiative, also known as CASI, had the pleasure of hosting our annual Bark, Whine and Dine fundraiser at Fuji Park, and because of our incredible community, it was once again a huge success.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

Nevada Humane Society May dining fundraiser gets $2,000 donation from Cafe at Adele's

Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City presented the Nevada Humane Society a check for $2,000 Friday from the May 26 Bone Appetit fundraiser at the restaurant.

Adele’s owners Karen and Charlie Abowd made the donation, which was 25 percent of the restaurant’s total sales for the all-day event. It was Cafe at Adele’s first fundraiser for Nevada Humane Society.

Catmandu feline adoption nonprofit in crisis, director asks community for financial help

Catmandu has closed the gates and is not taking in any more cats or kittens at this time. Unless Carson City and the surrounding communities open their wallets and start providing support, the facility will likely not re-open.

A new exhibit has hit town. Over the weekend, the Nevada Artists Association welcomed new works for its Imagination show.
