Nevada Humane Society in Carson City will offer a new clinic beginning this week to allow for low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. The clinic is part of the new Carson City Animal Shelter operated by NHS that opened October 2016.

Heavy equipment has begun clearing space on the old animal shelter property at 3770 Butti Way to make way for a new bus terminal, said Carson City Planning Division Assistant Planner Kathe Green.

As part of its Summer Learning Challenge series, the Carson City Library was host this week to Patchwork Giraffe, a craft event that teaches students how to make blankets.

The weekend is inching closer, and bringing with it one of Carson City’s favorite events – The Taste of Downtown. The annual fundraiser for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence brings everyone downtown for samplings from our local restaurants, live music, and a good time had by all. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

SATURDAY:

I love the summer solstice - longest day of sunshine all year. Celebrate the first day of summer with a hike up to our waterfalls; the guided Muscle Powered hike this evening will show you the way. Load up the kids and take a short drive to Silver City; all summer they offer educational fun stuff like today's 'mining for chocolate' activity. It's a night of 1000 Dad Jokes at the Brewery Arts Center where funny and punny run smack-dab into silly - laughter is the best family activity.

We’ve reached the mid-point of May, which puts summer just around the corner. I suspect there are plenty of students, and teachers too, that are counting down the days. The Carson High HOSA team is headed to their National Conference soon, and lunch or dinner at Chili’s will help get them there, just mention fundraiser to the server. We also have a T-Shirt fundraiser today at Firehouse Subs and Battle Born Ammunition & Firearms, LLC. The fundraiser is for Makayla Warner who is battling a rare kidney disease.

YERINGTON — Lyon County's seat celebrated Earth Day on Wednesday with a volunteer fair at its fire station, tree planting, painting the town's animal shelter and the announcement the community has been approved for $36 million in federal funding for water and sewer improvements.

Let's put this silly claim by my opponent that he's the voice of reason to rest and use his supposed opposition to the 1/8th city sales tax hike to do it.

With the city Supervisor seat from Ward 4 in the balance, Jim Shirk once again wants to have things both ways in typical politician fashion by saying he voted against the sales tax hike and opposed the downtown Carson Street project, yet he leaves out important details about his voting record and value received.
