Classy Seconds Thrift Store, a revenue arm of Advocates To End Domestic Violence shelter, held its grand opening Saturday at its new Gordon Street building in Carson City.

Two decades of searching and planning came to an end Thursday night for Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV), a Carson City-based 501(c)3 registered non-profit whose story goes back nearly 40 years.

After 20 years in the making, Advocates to End Domestic Violence will open its new 14,000 square foot Classy Seconds Thrift shop operation this Saturday, Nov. 11.

Throughout October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month the Mary Kay Foundation is awarding 150, $20,000 grants to domestic violence shelters nationwide including Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Carson City community by signing up and joining Advocates to End Domestic Violence at its annual Light After Dark Walk and Run event this Saturday, 6 p.m. at Silver Oak Golf and Event Center in Carson City.

It’s time for the Nevada Day Weekend celebration! This year the celebration starts with a party on Friday, Oct. 27 with FREE live entertainment in downtown Carson City across from the Carson Nugget. Hours for the event are from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will support local charities like Advocates to End Domestic Violence and F.I.S.H.

The Arlington Event Center across from the Carson Nugget will also host a Craft & Vendor Fair from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29. Join the party across from the Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City for an action-packed weekend.

The importance of diplomacy and ethics in politics will be the topic of Ralph McMullen's program at the next meeting of the Carson City Republican Women's Club. Please join us on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Carson Nugget for lunch and to hear Mr. McMullen's discussion on this subject.

Downtown Carson City streets were overflowing with people Saturday night during the 24th annual Taste of Downtown, the signature fundraising benefit for Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV).

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

Several new participants have joined the flavorful festivities of Taste of Downtown in Carson City this Saturday now making it 42 establishments providing great food and hospitality.

The weekend is inching closer, and bringing with it one of Carson City’s favorite events – The Taste of Downtown. The annual fundraiser for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence brings everyone downtown for samplings from our local restaurants, live music, and a good time had by all. What started as a small bit of hope 24 years ago, the annual Taste of Downtown has transformed into one of the most anticipated events of summer.

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club will hold its annual Picnic and Membership Drive Saturday, July 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dayton State Park in the covered public-use area. The club welcomes all Raiders fans, as well as those who are not.
