Carson City man charged with DUI after driving through backyards with cold Coors Light in cupholder

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Fairview and N. Edmonds drives Thursday at 11:23 a.m. for DUI first offense, open container, and failure to maintain a lane.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle accident in which a vehicle had driven through two fences and had come to a stop in the backyard of a residence on Quinn Drive.

Deputies made contact with the driver who identified himself, and deputies noted he had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath while he spoke.

The man said he had fallen asleep while driving south on Fairview Drive and must have crossed into the north bound travel lane and ran through fences of residences.

According to the police report, there was an opened Coors Light beer that was partially full and cold to the touch inside the vehicle in the center console.

The man denied having consumed any type of alcohol and agreed to participate in a series of field sobriety tests. The man failed multiple tests and showed numerous signs of impairment.

He blew a preliminary breath test of 0.163 and 0.173 blood alcohol content.

He was taken into custody without incident.

However, he admitted he hadn’t been at his previous address for approximately two weeks.

Deputies made contact with Scott’s girlfriend who said he had been staying with her for the past four days.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday morning on a malicious destruction of property warrant.

Just after midnight, deputies were patrolling in the area of Park and Fall streets when they saw three subjects walking on Park Street, and one of them was pushing a baby stroller.

Due to the low temperature, the deputy was concerned for the baby and conducted a welfare check.

The subjects identified themselves and deputies checked on the baby, who appeared to be in good health. The subjects said they were on their way to get a room at an inn.

They were sent on their way, but soon after the deputy did a warrants check and a warrant returned for one of the male subjects for malicious destruction of property out of the Carson Township Justice Court.

The man was located quickly and arrested on the warrant. He was booked into the Carson City Jail without incident.

— A 21-year-old Dayton woman was arrested in the area of Fairview Drive and Interstate 580 Thursday night on the charge of violating her suspended sentence.

A Special Enforcement Team deputy was on patrol heading southbound on the freeway when he noticed a car speeding 10 miles per hour over the speed limit, and the tires crossing the fog line for 150 yards.

The deputy did a registration check on the vehicle and learned the owner had a warrant out of her arrest for violating her suspended sentence by testing positive for amphetamines.

A second deputy arrived to take her into custody.

K-9 Deputy Ivo was asked to conduct an exterior free air sniff around the vehicle. Ivo altered to the presence of drug odor at the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The SET Deputy searched the vehicle and located a lighter between the driver’s seat and the center console.

According to the police report, the SET deputy noted that the lighter appeared strange because it was not functional and very light. It turned out to have a false bottom and a void in the middle of it, which contained a white substance which resembled methamphetamine, according to the deputy. However, both NARCTEC and NIK field chemical tests were inconclusive on identifying the substance, and so it was booked into evidence.

Bail: $3,000 cash only
