Four fallen firefighters will be added to Nevada Firefighters Memorial in Carson City
Plaques bearing the names of four firefighters who died this year will be added to those of other Nevada firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The names will be added at the Nevada Firefighters’ Memorial on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, 10 a.m. in Carson City.
The Nevada Firefighters Memorial is the official Nevada memorial to volunteer and career firefighters who die “in the line of duty.”
Firefighters to be honored at this year’s ceremony include Justin Randall Beebe, United States Forest Service; Brent Cooper, North Las Vegas Fire Department; Will Hawkins, Bureau of Land Management; and Jacob O’Malley, Bureau of Land Management.
The community is encouraged to attend and honor the memory of these men, and to reassure their loved ones that they will not be forgotten. The formal ceremony will be held at the Nevada Firefighters’ Memorial at Mills Park in Carson City.
The ceremony will conclude the weeklong observance of National Fire Prevention Week in Nevada. Honor Guard members will lead a combined fire service/honor guard during the ceremony and will ring the memorial bell.
Since its completion in 1994, the Nevada Firefighters Memorial has honored Nevada’s fallen firefighters at an annual ceremony held at the Nevada Firefighters Memorial in Carson City’s Mills Park on the last Saturday of National Fire Prevention Week in October.
Governor Brian Sandoval has proclaimed the week of October 9-15, 2016 as “Fire Prevention Week,” in Nevada. The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s State Fire Marshal Division would like to remind everyone we can all help make the world be a safer place by learning more about why and how fires start.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,” represents the final year of our three-year effort to educate the public about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety. With daylight saving time fast approaching remember to change your batteries when you turn your clocks back.
