The Nevada Day Treasure Hunt is a go, get ready to follow the clues to find the medallion

Despite the Nevada Day Parade being cancelled this year, there are many Nevada Day events still happening, and one of them is the popular Nevada Day Treasure Hunt!
According to organizer Jennifer Mahe, the hunt will be adhering to the governor's mandates to help stem the spread of COVID-19.
"The big change this year for hunters is that they will need to comply with all state and local governmental orders, rules and regulations relating to COVID-19 such as ensuring social distancing and wearing masks when required," said Mahe. "We are very hopeful that we will have a successful hunt that complies with the applicable orders, rules and regulations but, of course, if we are made aware by third parties of any issues with compliance then we will be forced to end the hunt early and recover the medallion from its hiding spot."
Mahe said, however, that she doesn't foresee any issues this year with hunters following guidelines.
"Historically our hunters are great about following the various guidelines associated with the public places they visit while hunting as well as the rules required for the hunt so we do not anticipate any problems with the new COVID-19 rules and regulations," said Mahe.
With the exception of complying with the new COVID-19 rules and regulations nothing else will change for the hunt this year, according to Mahe.
"We will continue to post clues each morning on our Facebook and website for hunters to solve and the medallion will be hidden on public property in Carson, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing, Storey or Washoe County," said Mahe. The clues will also be posted each day on Carson Now.
Mahe said that they decided to go forward with the Nevada Day Hunt because it poses very little threat to the community at large.
"In a lot of ways the hunt is a good COVID-19 activity," said Mahe. "It does not encourage physical gatherings; in fact, for many, the hunt encourages a fair amount of secrecy and limits group interactions as people do not want to share their research with others so that they will be the first one to find the medallion."
The majority of clue hunting will be done by way of internet research and going outside to hunt. During the stresses this year has brought, the Hunt could be a welcomed distraction for some.
"Given the stresses that 2020 and the pandemic have placed on our community we are hopeful that the hunt will give people a fun activity that allows them to learn about Northern Nevada and its history, while also giving people a reason to get outside and explore many of the public spaces that Northern Nevada has to offer."
