Dayton Valley Days Parade Seeks Marilyn Monroe Look Alikes
Dayton Valley Days Committee is welcoming entries to both the general parade on Saturday, September 18, and to the Pet Parade on Sunday, September 19, 2010. This year’s parade will feature retired Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha and well-known Dayton Valley rancher Kay Winters as Grand Marshals. To register for either parade, see www.daytonvalleydays.org
Marilyn Monroe, Mass Wedding Vow Renewals, Farmers’ Market, and Classic Cars: There’s really something for every taste at Dayton Valley Days this year, including Historical Society of Dayton Valley events celebrating the 50th Year Anniversary of the Dayton filming of the classic movie, The Misfits, starring Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable.
Events include Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable look alike contests, a mass renewal of wedding vows at the historic Dayton Courthouse, live music, cowboy poetry, a farmers' market, historical re-enactments, parades, and children's games. Tour Old Town Dayton’s many original buildings of the 1800’s, including the Dayton School House, fire house, Braun and Loftus Building and Hotel Row. For more information about Dayton history and the Historic Society’s call for memories and memorabilia related to the Misfits, see www.daytonnvhistory.org
There will also be a classic car "Show and Shine" by Dayton Valley Car Club and evening performances by David John and the Comstock Cowboys at nearby Pioneer Crossing casino.
Event Benefits Community: Healthy Communities Coalition, Community Roots and Central Lyon Youth Connections, all local nonprofits, are hosting Dayton Valley Days, with proceeds going to dozens of programs and partners they support. These include programs such as Community Roots’ job skills training for youths, Dayton Food Pantry, and Central Lyon Youth Connections, which operates free programs that improve graduation rates for students and provide opportunities to earn high school credits through meaningful community volunteer projects (see www.healthycomm.org for a full list of programs).
If you ‘d like to volunteer at the event, or would like to know more about opportunities to participate as a musician or actor on September 18-19, 2010, please contact Quest Lakes at (775) 287-7598.
