Dayton mother in ICU following Highway 50 crash; suspected DUI driver going the wrong way
A Dayton mother and two children were struck head-on late Saturday night by a suspected drunk driver going the wrong way near Flint Drive on Highway 50 East in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The woman, Victoria Dwyer, 25, remains in serious condition and is in intensive care at Renown Medical Center in Reno. The two children, 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl, were released from the hospital with minor injuries, according to family members.
Dwyer was flown by Care Flight, and her two children were taken by ground ambulance.
The 53-year-old driver of a white Mazda that struck the woman’s silver Saturn has been identified as Steven Stults of Dayton. He remains in the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time. NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber said alcohol impairment is suspected by the driver of the white Mazda.
Dwyer suffered internal injuries and multiple rib fractures. She was driving home after picking up her kids after she had gotten off of work, according to family. The mother and children were extricated from the Saturn.
Highway 50 East was closed during the crash investigation, with partial opening of the eastbound lane at around 1:30 a.m. all lanes of traffic were reopened at around 5 a.m. Dauber said.
The crash remains under investigation.
