Smoke from regional and Northern California wildfires has drifted back into the Carson City area, resulting in a moderate air quality index (AQI) rating of 53 as of 10 a.m. Sunday morning, according to readings from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP).
"Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion" under moderate AQI ratings, the NDEP said.
Sunday's AQI forecast, however, is for a worsening AQI, which is expected to persist Monday.
Area residents could expect air quality to become unhealthy for sensitive groups, the NDEP said, including people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children. Residents are advised to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
