Nevada receives nearly $3.9 million in federal money to aid underperforming schools
The Nevada Department of Education has received a nearly $3.9 million competitive federal School Improvement grant to assist with significant reforms at Nevada’s underperforming Priority and Focus schools.
“SIG funding will help underperforming schools that have both the greatest need and demonstrate the strongest commitment to significantly raise student achievement,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction, in a news release. “It will help us ensure a focus on school leadership, professional learning communities, and Tier I instruction aligned to standards.”
NDE was notified it received its federal fiscal year 2015 allocation of $3,884,256. This is a competitive sub-grant process in which eligible Priority and eligible Focus schools can apply for this funding authorized under Title I of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act over the next five years.
Sub-grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Awards will be based on the quality of the project and the likelihood for drastically improving student achievement. More information about the SIG program can be accessed at www.ed.gov or www.doe.nv.gov.
