Flash Flood Warning issued for Central Douglas County, northwestern Lyon and Storey counties
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Douglas County, Northwestern Lyon and Storey counties until 6:30 p.m. Monday.
At 3:30 p.m. Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing torrential rainfall about 10 miles southeast of Gardnerville. Flash flooding is expected to occur. Excessive rainfall over the warned area may cause mud slides near steep terrain along Highway 395 and near Gardnerville Ranchos.
Flash flooding and debris flows near recently burned areas are extremely dangerous and can destroy structures and wash out bridges and roads. Go here for the warning.
Meanwhile, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 6:30 p.m. for Northwestern Lyon and Storey counties.
At 3:59 p.m. trained weather spotters reported an extremely dangerous flash flood in the Six Mile Canyon area. Water is flowing into homes with several roads covered in water. Water is expected to flow into areas north of Highway 50 between Dayton and Stagecoach.
Locations expected to experience flooding include Dayton, Stagecoach, Six Mile Canyon and Highway 50 between Dayton and Stagecoach.
