Carson City area road report for week of June 6-12

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 6-12, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— North Carson Street will remain one lane in each direction during the day.
— During the day Ann, Sophia, Washington and 2nd Street will be closed to the west to Curry.
— From 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday, North Carson Street will be closed in both directions between William and Robinson. With Sophia, Ann, Washington and Caroline Streets also closed for one block to both the East and West of Carson Street. The detour route is Stewart Street.

Downtown and Third Street businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Lane closures with flagger controlled traffic at the following locations due to utility and road work from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.:

— Center Drive south of Clear Creek Avenue near Topsy Lane, Monday-Friday
— Lockheed Way between Convair Drive and Ryan Way, Thursday-Friday
— Northridge Drive, Monday-Thursday

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work please follow detours:
— Lompa Lane between Carmine Street and College Parkway, Saturday, 7 a.m. to Sunday 7 a.m.
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and U.S. 395, Monday through Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only
— Race Track Road and Bigelow Drive south of Snyder Avenue, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only
— Jeanell Drive between Winnie Lane and Michael Drive, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Anderson Street between Robinson and Caroline Streets Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Special Events: Epic Rides, a nationally known endurance bike ride will be held in Carson City on June 17-19. There will be significant impacts to traffic on Carson Street and west of downtown. Additional details on the event and impact to local roadways will be provided in the next road report.

Northbound U.S. 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Snyder Avenue will be reduced from three to two lanes until June 24.

Lane and ramp closures will take place on I-580 Carson City Freeway and U.S. 50, between June 6 and June 14, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Here’s this week’s Caltrans road work for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra for the week of June 5-11, 2016:
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Mankato Place to Granlibakken Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work and curb and gutter construction.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway is also being resurfaced. The project will be completed this spring.

June 6-9: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday for pavement fog sealing.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to just north of the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2017.

June 6-10: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Cascade Creek: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 2 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side.

June 6-10: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 10th Street to 13th Street: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane and shoulder closed around the clock from midnight Monday until 7 a.m. Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work. Southbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday from 13th Street to West Way for curb, gutter and sidewalk work, and motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday from West Way to Fallen Leaf Lake Road for pavement work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street: Motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday for utility work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday from Beach Avenue to Deer Street and from 7 a.m. to noon Friday from Fox Street to Beaver Street for utility work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Spring Creek Road to Vikingsholm Vista Point: Northbound motorists can expect the highway to be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 Sunday, June 5, for a bicycle event.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Tahoe State Park Drive to Onyx Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday for grinding and paving work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Agate Road to Anderson Road in Tahoe Vista: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Pleasant Valley Road East to Bradley Drive in Diamond Springs: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday for core drilling.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Cameron Park Drive: Eastbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 9 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m., Tuesday and westbound motorists from 8 p.m., Tuesday to 5 a.m., Wednesday for pavement grinding.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bedford Avenue to Canal Street in Placerville: Westbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane and right shoulder closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Sawmill Road (Upper Truckee River): Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Truckee Drive to River Drive and from Trout Creek to Tulare Avenue/Al Tahoe Boulevard: Eastbound motorists can expect lane closures around the clock from 9 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m., Friday for gas line utility work. The median (days) and westbound No. 1 lane (nights) will be used for eastbound traffic.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Fern Street to Trout Street in Homewood: Southbound motorists and bicyclists can expect shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for work on the multi-use path extension.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect long-term signalized one-way traffic control for emergency repair work, which is scheduled to be completed by July.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Chili Bar (South Fork American River): Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from midnight to noon Friday and 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday for bridge work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Nevada County line to Carnelian Bay Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for pavement work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Ranger Station road to National Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for guardrail repairs.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Dolly Varden Avenue to the junction with State Route 28: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday for utility work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work continues on a $36 million project to increase the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Newcastle Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures and on-ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Brace, Gilardi, Horseshoe Bar, King, Penryn, Newcastle and Magra overcrossings for bridge work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Long Ravine underpass to .2 miles east of Magra Road overcrossing: Roadwork begins for the 2.5 year, $50.6 million project to construct 3 miles of additional ‘truck climbing lane’ and other improvements to primarily eastbound I-80 east of Colfax including widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Placer County) from Route 174/80 Separator to Secret Town overcrossing (Magra and Alpine): Motorists can expect overnight, alternating lane, shoulder and median closures from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 6-7 for K-rail installation.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from Magra overcrossing to Route 174/80 separator: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday June 6 for guardrail repair.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Nevada County) from Donner Park overcrossing to Vista Point: Motorists can expect right lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 6 for pavement work.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Nevada County) from Acid Flat Bridge to the Hirschdale/Boca Bridge overcrossing: Motorists can expect right lane closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, June 7-9 for pavement work.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Nevada/Placer County) from Donner Lake Road interchange to the Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect left and right lane/shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 6-9 for guardrail repair.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Nevada/Placer County) from Yuba Gap overcrossing to the Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect left and right lane/shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 6-9 for guardrail repair.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Nevada County) from Farad undercrossing to the Sierra County line: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closings from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 6-9 for ditch cleaning.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Placer County) from Troy to the Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect 24-hour, right lane closures and full closure of the Kingvale on-off ramps from 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5 through 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11 for paving operations.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at Whitmore Maintenance Station: Motorists can expect intermittent full highway closures from 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, June 5 for utility work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Hwy 174 junction to Bennett Street off-ramp: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder restrictions on local cross street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, June 7-9 for utility work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Nevada Street to Dow Road: Motorists can expect right lane and right shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 6 for tree work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Rocky Rest Campground to Yuba Pass Summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for right lane closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday June 6-9 for crack seal operations.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Heron Road to Heesche Avenue: Motorists can expect intermittent, 24-hour one way traffic controls for lane and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, June 6-9 and Friday, June 10 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for culvert repair.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Fowler Road: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6-10 for utility work.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.
