Historic V&T celebrates summer with Father’s Day and Toast of the Canyon steam trains
The family that explores together, stays together. That’s the plan aboard the Virginia & Truckee Railroad with excursions Father’s Day Weekend, June 18-19, and the Toast of the Canyon beginning June 25.
Special Father’s Day Weekend steam trains will chug their way over the hills through scenic vistas to historic Virginia City. It will be a weekend to remember for fathers as families will be able to shop, dine and explore Old West history while in Virginia City and retrace the path that brought migrants to Northern Nevada to mine silver on the Comstock. A professional photo to commemorate the special day is included.
Trains depart Carson City to Virginia City on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $52 per adult, $48 for veterans and seniors 65-plus, $32 for children ages 3 to 16 and toddlers and infants are free.
Leave the kids at home for the Toast of the Canyon. The theme is “Date Night” with a backdrop of Northern Nevada scenery for this tour that runs select Saturdays beginning June 25 through Oct. 15. Passengers travel 45-minutes south of the Carson City Depot into the Carson River Canyon with spectacular features of high desert with an opportunity to photograph the "Iron Horse" as it unhooks from the passenger cars to re-attach at the front of train for the return. The breathtaking scenery is paired with appetizers provided by Red’s Old 395 Grill and a glass of wine.
Toast of the Canyon departs the Carson City Eastgate Depot at 5 p.m. and returns at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25.
Regularly scheduled trains for the 2016 season depart Carson City Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m. Friday steam trains run from July 1 to Aug. 12, departing Carson City at 10 a.m. Round-trip steam train tickets are $52 for adults, $32 for children ages 3 to 16 (toddlers and infants are free) and $48 for seniors 65 and older. Discounted private group charters are also available.

The Carson City passenger station is located at Eastgate Siding on Flint Drive off U.S. Highway 50 East. To keep the memories rolling passengers may visit the station’s gift shop stocked with V&T souvenirs.
