Empty Bowls Carson City hosts bowl painting Saturday during Spring carnival at Mills Park
Empty Bowls Carson City will hold its first bowl painting event of the year this Saturday, May 7 during the RSVP Spring Celebration at Mills Park. Bowl painting begins at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to help in the effort.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls.
In December guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity. In Carson City it is FISH.
Organizers said there are at least 50 bowls that will need to be painted. The event will continue until it runs out of bowls.
Meanwhile, Empty Bowls Carson City is seeking bowls made by potters for its event in December.
Organizer Robin Levene McGregor says potters can ship or deliver bowls for the project to Carson City Pottery or to FISH's office or if a donor is within a 2 hour drive of Carson City a volunteer can arrange to pick them up. Empty Bowls Carson City needs commitment from potters as to how many bowls they can donate as it works toward its goal of making 700 bowls.

All proceeds from December's Empty Bowls project are donated to FISH (Friends In Service Helping). FISH provides Food, Independence, Shelter, Healthcare and other services to the hungry and needy in our community.
