Carson City area road report Sunday to May 5 include single lane closures on Highway 50
Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of April 28 through May 5, 2019. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:
Single lane closures are in place Sunday morning, April 28, on U.S. 50 in east Carson City as the Nevada Department of Transportation repairs a section of roadway median barrier damaged in a crash.
The left lanes of both eastbound and westbound U.S. 50 will be closed near Drako Way in east Carson City Sunday, April 28 between approximately 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Motorists are advised to anticipate brief travel delays, particularly when traveling westbound from the Dayton area to Carson City.
Crews will replace an attenuator, or crash cushion, at the end of a roadway barrier wall. Stationed at end of roadway barriers or guardrails, attenuators serve as a crash cushion to help reduce damage to drivers, vehicles and surrounding roadway structures during a crash.
— Ann Street will be closed between Division Street and Carson Street, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Division Street will be closed at the intersection of Ann Street, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Nevada Street will be closed at the intersection of Ann Street, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Curry Street will be closed at the intersection of Ann Street, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— State Route 28 will be closed near Tunnel Creek Café and Sand Harbor State Park, 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., between May 6-7 and May 14-15.
Lane restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:
— US 50 West will have 24-hour single lane closures between Tahoe Golf Drive and Spooner summit, Monday through Friday. Travel delays between 10 and 30 minutes should be anticipated. Lane closures expected through late November.
— Oregon Street may have narrowed lanes between Wright Way and Roop Street, Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— State Route 28 will have reduced lanes between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., through late June.

— Fall Street will be reduced to a single lane between John Street and Dan Street, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Single lane closures are in place on U.S. 50 in areas between Carson City and Spooner Summit as the Nevada Department of Transportation enhances storm drainage to help preserve water quality and reduce erosion.
As of Thursday, April 25, drivers will see 24-hour single lane closures from 8 p.m. Sunday evenings through 6 p.m. Friday evenings on both directions of U.S. 50 from Tahoe Golf Club Drive to the Spooner summit area. Travel delays of up to 30 minutes should be anticipated, with most delays averaging under 10 minutes.
Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. Drivers should also anticipate and share the road with bicyclists in designated travel lanes. The two-year road improvement project is projected to complete in fall 2020, with construction anticipated to seasonally stop for hiatus during the heart of winter.
The project will replace and line existing aging culverts, replace drop inlets, and install new storm drain systems to help improve roadway safety against flooding and reduce erosion in downstream drainages. The project will also add enhanced water quality treatments for roadway drainage before entering Clear Creek.
Additionally, sections of existing guardrail will also be replaced with concrete barrier rail to improve highway safety and reduce maintenance costs. Most of the drainage systems were originally constructed when the highway was built more than 50 years ago. The drainage systems carry storm water into the Clear Creek Watershed on the south side of U.S. 50.
The approximately $8 million project by contractor Granite Construction Company is one part of the Clear Creek Erosion Control Program, a cooperative agreement between NDOT and the Carson Valley Conservation District to reduce erosion and preserve water quality in the upper Clear Creek Watershed.
Most recently, NDOT enhanced drainage and erosion controls on U.S. 50 from the South Carson Street and Spooner junction to Tahoe Golf Club Drive.
NDOT has long been dedicated to storm water management. The Department uses best management practices to minimize potential water quality impacts that could result from the construction and maintenance of state highways. NDOT projects in Carson City and Lake Tahoe have received awards from the American Public Works Association for their commitment to environmental improvement.
