Carson City Fire Department recognizes Wildfire Awareness Month with May events
Carson City encourages you to “Improve Your Odds - Prepare For Wildfire.” Take personal responsibility and prepare before the threat of a wildfire so you and your home are ready. Create defensible space by clearing brush, trim and remove tall, dry grasses, and remove low lying tree limbs away from your home. Use fire-resistant landscaping and don’t forget to make a list and assemble emergency supplies and belongings and store them in a safe place Carson City Fire Department will help you get started with two great events:
Saturday, May 2, 2015 - “Community Open House” WNC parking lot across from Fire Station 54 10 am to 2 pm: Interact with Fire Department personnel, get up- close and personal with firefighting equipment, visit the Fire Safety Trailer and see what programs are available to assist in preparing for wildfire. Learn about personal family preparedness from our Community Emergency Response Team.
Sunday, May 3, 2015 – Fuels Reduction Walking Tour Meet at the West end of Hobart Road 10:00 am: This is a walking tour to learn about what leads to an accumulation of hazardous fuels, what is being done to mitigate those hazards and what are the environmental impacts? Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a hike and bring drinking water.
