CD release show April 13 for Gurf Morlix's 'The Soul and The Heal' in Silver City
Veteran roots music producer, songwriter, and performer Gurf Morlix is touring the country in support of his new release, ‘The Soul and The Heal.’ He plays a CD release show at the Silver City School House in Silver City, Nev., on Thursday, April 13.
Perhaps one of Morlix’s newest and most recognizable fans, film star and writer/director Ethan Hawke remarked about this ninth and newest studio release: “If you are serious about music, you might want to get serious about Gurf Morlix. Part Alt/country, part blues, part literature- every one of Gurf’s albums are excellent- but The Soul & The Heal is the best.” (Morlix recently appeared in a bio-pic about his friend and musical cohort, the late Blaze Foley, directed by Hawke.)
Buffalo born and Texas bred, Morlix has provided countless indelible musical moments in the last 40-plus years-his exemplary guitar and production work with Lucinda Williams, his instrumental accompaniment to artists ranging from Blaze Foley to Warren Zevon, his production of watermark albums for artists such as Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen and Mary Gauthier – and a series of eight solo records that have a singular worldview, both harrowing and heartening, often at the same time.
The record’s title, The Souls and The Heals, gives a clue to the songwriter’s signature way with words, bending and shaping them to communicate in a voice both clever and insightful. The songwriter says that the title speaks to “the healing of the soul from all the damage we inflict on ourselves.”
The Silver City Schoolhouse is located at 385 High Street in Silver City, Nevada. Doors are at 6 and the show starts at 7 pm on Thursday, April 13th. Suggestion donations are $15-$25, and go to support the artist, and to arts activities at the Schoolhouse.
