Storms can make road visibility difficult for motorists and pedestrians
With weather conditions once again changing this weekend in Carson City, it becomes important that you drive slower and be more observant for unseen obstacles as well as pedestrians that may be in the roadway. Visibility decreases when rain and snow mix and stopping distances will be increased should you need to stop suddenly.
If you are out walking during foul weather, be sure to wear some kind of reflective clothing so that you can be seen easier. Cross the roadways only when you are sure that the driver sees you and be prepared to move out of the way should the vehicle be unable to stop due to the road and weather conditions.
During daylight hours it may be easier to see pedestrians however, if the roads are wet, snowy or icy, it will still be difficult to stop in an emergency. Don’t let a false sense of security lead to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
Be sure to put more distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Don’t tailgate or cut off other drivers because you are in a hurry. If a vehicle should be tailgating you, move over and let them pass. By doing this, you reduce the risk of a vehicle crash.
Your attention needs to be on the road and on the operation and control of your vehicle which could lose traction during bad weather. Put away the cell phone and let your voice mail take the call. Nothing is more important than your arriving home safely.
