Carson City woman among seven to sign on to CrossFit 'Shred the New Year 2013, Let’s Get Real' challenge
I’ll start tomorrow. How many of us have told ourselves this only to have tomorrow never come because the first step is so very daunting? Just 10, 15 or 30 pounds can harm a person’s health, self esteem and sometimes even affect the person’s work and family life.
Now imagine the task of losing 60, a 100 or even 300 pounds. This seems an almost impossible feat. Society’s response to this need is not to tell people they can do it. Instead people judge and wonder why they haven’t already done it. The simple answer to this question is that they don’t really know that they can change their lives. The coaches at Carson City CrossFit know they can. Many of them have changed their own lives through CrossFit. Carson City CrossFit’s goal for 2013 is to show their community that they can do it too. Carson City CrossFit’s goal is to provide a forum so they can change their lives.
This is why Carson City CrossFit has started “Shred the New Year 2013, Let’s Get Real.” The “Shred the New Year” is a program designed by Lief and Jill Larson, owners of Carson City CrossFit to empower people to be strong, healthy and live a healthy lifestyle through CrossFit.
Eight lucky people have been chosen to receive four months of personal coaching, personalized nutrition plans, progress monitoring and guidance all at no cost to them. I use the word empower because when all is said and done people have to want to change their lives. Carson City CrossFit weeded out the people who weren’t serious by requiring them to complete two very simple steps.
First, the applicants were asked to send in their picture via e-mail and express their desire to participate in the program. Once this was done they were asked to write an essay on how and why they wanted to change their lives. The essays were so emotionally charged that Carson City CrossFit expanded the program from five people to eight.
Many people on the beginning of a journey like these eight people are beginning don’t have a clue as to where to start. The Shredders will have their first class to begin their lifestyle change with a nutrition seminar hosted by Robb Wolf. Robb Wolf is a former research biochemist is the New York Times Best Selling author of The Paleo Solution – The Original Human Diet. A student of Prof. Loren Cordain, author of The Paleo Diet, Robb has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world via his top ranked iTunes podcast, book and seminars and he is donating his time and providing the Shredders the nutrition seminar to begin their journey. Carson City CrossFit. also teamed up with WODSUPERSTORE.COM to offer the Shredders a CrossFit package to get them started. The Shredders will finish their four month journey with mini makeovers from a local Salon Chocolat.
Who and what is Carson City CrossFit?
Most people think CrossFit and in their mind they get an image of athletic people with super powers. What they don’t realize is that some of those strong healthy people, can be seen running along the side of Hot Springs Road started off not being able to jog a half block. They had support and encouragement to get where they are now with their coaches. Carson City CrossFit is about changing lives through one goal at a time. Goals ranging from running half a block to doing handstand pushups can be read on a goal board at Carson City CrossFit. It is inspirational to see high school seniors on the football team high fiving woman their grandmother’s age because they did in fact run a half a block. This type of support is what is needed to move people from “I’ll start tomorrow” to “I met my goal”. Photo is of Alex Tinsley of Carson City CrossFit and Amanda Stepro.
