Author Mark McLaughlin to Speak on Snowbound in the Sierra at Dangberg Historic Park
Author Mark McLaughlin will speak on his book, Snowbound! Legendary Winters of the Tahoe Sierra, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, July 10, at 10 a.m.
Mark McLaughlin’s latest book is not about meteorology, however it is about weather. In his book, McLaughlin focuses on the top ten biggest winters in the Tahoe Sierra based on snowfall measured at Donner Pass since 1879. He will share amazing weather facts and incredible stories of men and women struggling to cope against some of the most powerful storms on Earth.
McLaughlin’s book includes more than 250 photographs and is dedicated to all who love mountains in winter, and to California’s Caltrans and Union Pacific Railroad crews who work every winter to keep highways safe and railways clear.
Alpen Sierra Coffee Company is providing complimentary coffee and 88 Cups & More is providing baked treats for visitors throughout the series.
Tahoe weather historian Mark McLaughlin is an award-winning, nationally published author and professional speaker with several books and more than 650 articles in print. He is also a five-time winner of the Nevada State Press Award.
Educated as a cultural geographer and historian at the University of Nevada, Reno, McLaughlin is a popular lecturer who has lived at Tahoe’s north shore since 1978 and has appeared as an expert consultant on CNN, The History Channel and The Weather Channel, as well as many historical documentaries.
The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88m ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital. This is an outdoor event, and visitors should bring their own seating. Dogs are not permitted at this event. For more information, visit dangberghomeranch.org.
