Lyon and Storey Coalition Hosts Speakers from Foster Care Recruitment and Mobile Crisis Response Team
The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties will have 3 guest speakers for their February breakfast meeting. The meeting is on Thurs February 9th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.
Speakers include Lori Nichols from Foster Care Recruitment, and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care Program. They will explain the pressing need for foster homes in the Lyon and Storey County region, and offer ways to help increase the number of foster parents.
Mason Schubert, Mental Health Counselor with the Rural Mobile Crisis Response Team, will describe the service and its recently expanded role in reaching rural regions. The statewide program is for children and their families who are experiencing behavioral health crises.
Healthy Communities’ monthly public breakfast meetings attract community volunteers and representatives from education, health care, social services, food systems, mental health care, housing, substance abuse prevention and treatment, mental health care, and employment groups who collaborate to increase access to local food and health care, and to strengthen community development.

The featured speaker for the March meeting will be Pediatric Thanatologist Emilio Parga, Founder and Executive Director of Solace Tree, who will speak about creating “grief friendly schools” that are equipped supportive of children and teens who are dealing with loss.
Examples of Past Speakers: Some past speakers include Vinton Hawley, Chairman of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, the superintendents of both Storey and Lyon School Districts, staff from USDA Rural Development housing loan and repair, the mayor of Fernley, the chair of the Silver City Chair of Town Council, board members with Basin and Range Organics, community volunteers of Silver Springs, director of the Fernley Business Center, Connect Nevada community technology coordinator for Nevada, the director of St. Mary's Art Center, the director of Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention, Oscar Delgado of Nevada Health Link and the Governor's Committee on Workforce Development, Cortney Bloomer of Safe Routes to Schools, and many others.
