Happy Friday, Carson City! There's a lot going on this weekend as the weather jumps up to the 80s, so here are some fun events to join in on.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence will host the 28th annual Taste of Downtown, also known as "The Taste" event today, Saturday, June 17, 2023, in historic downtown Carson City. More than 30 local restaurants will be serving up a taste of their menu for ticketholders.

On Wednesday, June 21, at 7 pm, Reno resident and longtime Nevada historian, Tamera “Tammy” Buzick, curator of the Bowers Mansion Museum, presents a lecture of the life of Eilley Orum Bowers and the Bowers Mansion.

The Brewery Art Center is getting a major facelift.

On June 3, 2023, at approximately 1241 hours, Lyon County Animal Services (LCAS) received an anonymous complaint in reference suspicious activity occurring at a residence on 10th Street, in Silver Springs, Nevada. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) was requested to assist.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office identified human remains located in the Kings Canyon area on May 2nd, 2023, as Marc Cole through DNA comparison. Mr. Cole was reported missing on February 14th, 2023, by a friend in Carson City.

During its meeting on June 15, 2023, the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract for Jenifer Davidson to serve as the County’s new County Manager. Davidson has served as Interim County Manager since June 6 and previously served as Assistant County Manager since April 2018.

Nevada added around 1,500 jobs over the month of May and saw its labor force grow by about 4,000 people, according to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s monthly 2023 economic report released Thursday.

The Harley Davidson Financial Building, located at 3850 Arrowhead Way in Carson City, is in the process of being acquired by a new buyer — the state of Nevada.

This is not the first time the financial building has been sold; in January 2021, an investment company out of Las Vegas initially purchased the property for $3.8 million.

Nevadan Angelo Reyes began his work day June 10, 2022 like any other, until a colleague mentioned that his eyes appeared yellow. This was the first sign of liver failure, which progressed rapidly. Driven by his sense of responsibility to his family and his son, he continued to work even as his skin began to yellow and his body held excess fluid.

Reyes was placed on the transplant waiting list less than a month after his first symptom — at 47 years old, he needed a life-saving liver transplant.

A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for a fugitive from justice warrant issued out of California, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Two children and an adult died in an early morning fire Thursday in Fallon, according to the Nevada State Fire Marshal.

This past weekend, Carson City was inundated with a hail and rain storm that caused flooding in several neighborhoods around town. Calls of flooded streets, storm drains backing up, and even three-foot-high geysers shooting out of manholes were coming in one right after another. Units from Douglas County were called to assist after Carson City units quickly became inundated with calls.
