Touring musicians Leslie Stevens and Max Gomez, from Los Angeles and Taos, New Mexico, respectively, will be performing Friday evening at the new outdoor Summer Stage at 1201 North Carson Street.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is delighted to announce that its $500 2023 Aim scholarship was awarded to Paloma Moon from Douglas High School, for her Scarlett, pen & ink drawing. Every few years I have certified arborists prune our trees. They always chip anything smaller than what we can use for firewood, generating a mountain of wood chips for me. I use wood chips throughout our landscaped acre, everywhere there isn’t lawn.

Green Central is the place to be, Saturday, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the The Greenhouse Project's 14th annual Mother's Day Plant Sale. Plants are currently available on-line. These sales will be suspended Saturday through Wednesday, May 17 to allow staff to restock inventory.

Carson High School Baseball Seniors were asked to choose one teacher or coach who has made an impact in their lives thus far. They then presented them with a personalized jersey and invited them to Senior Night, which took place this past Wednesday.

It was a special way for these players to thank an educator or coach for being a role model to them.

Jan Loverin to present CCHS lecture May 19 in person and on Zoom

Carson City Historical Society (CCHS) is proud to host a lecture/presentation by Jan Loverin, curator of the Marjorie Russell Textile Museum, on "Victorian Fashions and Dress Reform" on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Carriage House, 1207 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada. We will be offering light refreshments. No RSVP is necessary.

Next Thursday, May 11, a city-wide Bike to School Day event is being held. The school with the most bikes on their campus will win a prize!

When Brynlee Peters, a fifth grader at Edith W. Fritsch Elementary in Carson City, began working on her entry for this year’s Free Fishing Day Poster Contest, she was inspired by a fishing trip to Lake Tahoe she took with her family.

“I remembered the last time we went on a fishing trip and all the things about it that made it fun were about being with family,” she said. “I thought about all the things my family would enjoy, like the fresh air and the memories we would make together.”

In response to changing community needs, later this month Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) will begin the process of merging services to maximize limited resources and maintain needed services for our community.

On Friday, several school districts in Northern Nevada including Washoe, Carson and Lyon became aware of a threat being circulating threatening a school shooting, with no specific school indicated. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the reports, and Lyon County issued a statement that the threats are not credible.

Veterans taking their lives continues to be a sad and unfortunate trend in the United States. Nevada has also experienced the same alarming suicide rates for veterans.

To help alert more people about the need to take necessary steps to prevent the tragic losses of these lives, Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center is holding a Veterans Suicide Prevention and Awareness March on Saturday, May 6.

Three fifth graders from Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City competed in the National Archery Tournament at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah last weekend, April 28-29, 2023. Out of nearly 3,000 participants from more than 200 schools nationwide, Teddy Hohl shot a 241, Finn Russell shot a 199 and Wyatt Valentine shot a 160, earning them an overall ranking of 83, 186 and 211 respectively.
